Issue 83 continued: - Previously bent side window frames glued in place. - Further strips bent, painted yellow/black then fitted - Strip fitted below bottom frame at the rear gallery, another coat yellow applied, surroundings painted black - Stern mouldings bent using a jig to allow them to dry in the correct curve. - Mouldings fitted to both sides gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Thanks Alan. Issue 83 continued: - Final horizontal frames fitted to both sides of the gallery - With the same method I used for the rear window frames, vertical frames cut to size for port side, painted black, masked, then painted yellow with care because some frames has only one yellow stripe. - Hull painted black on both sides above the channel moulding - After paint dried on window frames, they glued in place - Same task started for starboard side. The most forward window frames left to do on both sides after glue will dry. The wales supposed to be cut back a bit to allow to fit the 3mm wide strips. I'm a bit nervous that accidentally I'll damage the nice painted hull around the cut... gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Issue 83 completed: - Vertical fitted to the starboard too - Carefully cut back the wales and the forward frames also cut to size, painted and fitted - Areas for balusters painted black - Balusters fitted to a masking tape, then sprayed with primer - They painted yellow and then fitted all around the gallery - Transom edges bent, painted and fitted I have a little problem with my trophy die-cast part. One of the spears is slightly bent. It won't be used until issue 90 however could anyone suggest a method to bend it back? As the die-cast part is very brittle I don't want to "just" bend it. Any suggestions? Or shall I ask Customer Service to send a replacement part? gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Started Issue 84: - Timber heads carved for forecastle - Fiferails assembled and painted - They fitted to position together with the four diecast parts - 6 cannon carriages assembled for the quarterdeck - Height of them adjusted to suit the gun ports, all 6 was a bit too high - Tiny axles turned from toothpicks for the gun barrels, using my Dremel and a needle file as a lathe. They look more authentic than the provided brass wire. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Laszlo Finished builds: HMS Victory, HMS Victory Cross-Section

Beautifully done, looking fab.... .. As for your bent die-cast piece, I would try to gently straighten the spear and if it does snap then I'd contact CS for a replacement. Regards Alan

Thanks Alan, Chris for the good comments. I wrote to the CS already regarding my trophy arm, unfortunately I haven't received any response after 3 days. Issue 84 continued: - I decided to re-paint the cannon barrels as the chemically blackened surface wasn't very nice and uniform colour. So I sprayed the barrels with primer, will be painted black tomorrow. - Using the same method as for the barrel axles (Dremel + needle file = lathe) I started turn customised axles from toothpicks for the wheels too, they will look more authentic compared to the supplied brass wire. Unfortunately the battery in my Dremel gone flat , hence I couldn't finish all axles , so I started to customise the wheels. - First, with a razor saw I cut a slot across the wheel, just deep enough to remove the blackened surface. This is to simulate the pin which holds the wheel on the axle. Then "drilled" six holes using 0.7mm drill, again, just deep to remove the black surface. These simulate the bolts which holds the two faces of the wheel together. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Laszlo Finished builds: HMS Victory, HMS Victory Cross-Section

Hello All, Issue 84 continued: - After Dremel's battery charged finished turning the axles - Cannon barrels painted black, axles heads yellow ochre - Wheels and axles glued onto gun carriages. I must have made some error during the build because literally I have no space between the cabin wall and the furthest rear gun port. Hence I have to omit the rigging of the related two guns, even more, I had to file off the axle heads on the LH side gun and nearly file off the whole wheel on the RH side (see the two guns at the front on the photos), to ensure the gun sits central to the gun port. Hopefully it won't showing too much because the ladders will cover these guns. - Another customised feature: I didn't quite like how the blocks are fixed to the carriages (tiny thread feed into the hole), so first, I fitted a ring to the block (between to hitches), then an eyebolt fitted to the ring. The eyebolt cut short and glued into the hole. - Gun barrels and brackets glued in place, thick rope led through the eyebolts and ring. - Guns fully dressed with tackles, except the two mentioned earlier. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! I had a very productive day today, Issue 84 is completed: - Six guns fitted to quarterdeck - Side fiferails assembled, painted and fixed to their place - When started to work on the companionway opening I noticed that one of the four rail pillars is shorter than the other three. Having no spare in the kit I had no other choice but turn a replacement. As before for the gun axles, I used my Dremel, a pointy needle file and a 3mm diameter spare dowel as a lathe. I'm pleased with the result. - After cutting, staining and fitting the two side covers I wasn't happy that the planks, especially the caulking are showing underneath, they are quite disturbing. So I also stained the visible plank sides/ends. - Finally, all rails cut to size, stained and fitted. Very happy with the final result, it can't be told which pillar is not the original. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Thanks Alan. I still have no feedback from CS regarding my bent trophy arms, I'll try to call them tomorrow. Issue 85 started: - platforms for poop deck ladders made and fitted. - then I noticed that the provided ladder sides are shorter than the height of the platform. I must have made another error somewhere. Anyhow, I found spare sides (Issue 52 received twice) but due to the extra length the lower end was too close to the cannon, wouldn't leave any space for the stanchions. If I would fit it on a bigger angle then the steps are not horizontal. - I had no other choice but to make my own ladder sides on a steeper angle but with horizontal steps. - All measurement made, ladders cut, assembled and fitted. - Stanchions fitted, hand rail bent and glued in place. - Started to work on the bow deck, two front frames bent, painted and fitted, bulkhead painted blue. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Issue 85 continued: - The first 8 pilasters glued into position - Started to fit the little arches for the roundhouses. Unfortunately even if I soaked them in hot water I was struggling to bend them to the required curve. I also didn't want to leave them straight. So I decided to make my own arches. Using leftover 4x4mm strip I carved an arch (using the straight piece as a sample for the curve) which is "bending" in two planes. It sits up to the roundhouse curve and also bends around the port hole. See pictures below comparing the original and my arch. So far I made two arches. - Painted the central triple arch with primer and yellow - Painted the two roundhouse arches - I also painted yellow/black (in line with the hull stripes) the back and bottom of the roundhouses where they're protruding over the hull. I'm not sure if it will be visible, but better to play safe. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Laszlo Finished builds: HMS Victory, HMS Victory Cross-Section
