Hi All,, Here I tried my hand at doing the cannon on the SanFrancisco, These are moulded metal and look terrible. I started by filing the piece and squaring off the edges, then on to painting, I don't know how to simulate wood but tried anyways..lol. Here is the next instalment of pics from my build... I have finished the cannons now and installed them. I used the idea off here to use wood glue mixed with water on the thread to give weight to the rope. Looks so much better now. Now onwards with the chump blocks. You can see my attempt of making the cannon carriage looking like wood. Hi all, Thanks for your comments. Here are some more pics, I finished all the chump blocks and fixed all the shields on the sides. I then went on to the anchors. These are horrible as you can see, I filed and then painted and made them a little better. Then onto the gratings. These come molded in metal. I can't afford to buy the wooden kit form grating so made them do. A little filing and then sprayed them, and finished them off with a wood effect around the edge's. Hope you like the build so far .. will post again soon. Chris... On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

She really beautiful Magpie a credit to you! I love how you have made the best of what you had to work with. The gun carridges and grates look great. How did you get the gun carridges to look so woodlike? Pam's shipyard is closed for now no more room!

Hi, I forgot to put the pics of the anchors before I had a play with them..lol.
Also here are some more new pics of what I did last night. I installed the launch boat. And the gratings.
Thanks for your nice comments, The wood effect I just played around , I started with undercoat of light brown acrylic, then I mixed dark brown acrylic with water to thin it down, and gave the parts many coats of thinned paint to build it up to desired effect. Then lighter parts show up and the darker areas stand out aswell. Just try it out on scrap parts, It's all trial and error. Thanks,, chris.

I fitted all the masts aswell. Got the extensions to the masts to do. But got too atempt the ratlines...Do you like my Expensive Stand to hold the ship....
