Hi Steve, thanks for looking in, I never gave any thought to treating the paper cover, a coat of matt varnish should do the trick. Many thanks for the heads up. Regards,
Tony.

Hello all, I applied a coat of matt varnish to the paper shelter cover, ( thanks again to Stevie-o ). The mast has been rigged with standing rigging. The black stripes round the bow and stern are made from automotive go faster stripes, which I originally bought for the mast on the Victory cross section. The stbd side oar cover has been made and fitted, and the black wire doohickies are being fitted. I haven't a clue what they are supposed to do. The lower covers, which the oars pass through are under construction, and will be the next things fitted. The oars are completed, stained and varnished More soon. Regards, Tony. Well done Tony! A beautiful looking vessel too! I checked in my Roman army book which had a short section on the Roman Navy and the picture of the Trireme showed a line of Roman army shields lashed to the side (like a viking longship) right where those hoops are, to protect the rowers from arrows etc. It could be that's what they were for? Keep up the great work! Hello all, A further update, the steering oar platforms have been made, the steering oars are made and just need fitting. Most of the decals have been applied. They were made by copying the decal sheet on the drawing onto blank decal film. Not 100% successful as the drawing is on a sort of greyish paper, but the best that could be done. The covers where the oars pass through are made and fitted. A start has been made on rigging the main sail, but progress will be slow. More soon. Regards, Tony. Hello All, Well I reckon, that is about it. The sprit sail has been fitted and rigged, the stone anchor made and fitted, and two red discs fitted to the stern post ( I don't know what they are for, they are the wrong shape for Roman shields). All in all, a pretty enjoyable build, if fairly straight forward. The drawings are available if anyone fancies a go. Criticism welcome. Regards, Tony. Tony C attached the following image(s):
