Thanks guys!

Jase, it is actually a lot quicker and less stressful on the model to do it this way I think. The impact is SO fast, as opposed to trying to push a pin in. The impact is something on the order of 1/100 of a second. The point of the driver is about 1/64 square, so there isn't that much force going in. The odd nail does blow through occasionally, if the angle of the gun is wrong, so it can't be used everywhere.

As far as not seeing it before, I dunno why not. I have all the "toys" so why not use them? It is a cabinetmaking tool, but it made perfect sense to use it in this application. Just think how fast I'll me able to plank this bad boy!

I can only strongly advise you not to do this with your planking. Firstly your nailing so far has already damaged the deck. when your planking you either remove the pins or cut them off. your method will drive them on damaging the plank.

Can i suggest that nobody has used a nail gun before because it is not the right thing to do!!!!! I am really sorry but i do hope nobody follows your advice on this it not good.

Damaged the deck? Where? The deck is perfect. If you are talking about the small indentations, that was addressed. It would be of no moment anyway, even if the deck was going to be on a visible deck, as it all gets overlaid with planking.

Gotta think outside the box!

Hi All,

It has been brought to my attention that there are concerns regarding my use of this method to do the initial assembly of my hull.

I would like to go on record as saying that I am IN NO WAY advocating that anyone reading my blog rush out and get a gun and compressor. My decision to use these tools is based on my ownership of said tools, and my complete and total familiarity in the usage of such.

It is without a doubt completely non-traditional. However, there is absolutely no valid reason whatsoever not to use a tool I deem appropriate, based on my experience.

For those of you who are shaking your heads at the dumb Yank, wait and see! It'll be cool!

Hi Mark, if the tools you use gives you confidence and of course the desired results leading to quality build then who are we to say its wrong.... Cool Cool .. I would say though the use of a nail gun should only be attempted by people who have the knowledge and experience of using such a tool especially on builds that are this delicate.....Cool Cool You do things the way you want to do and I'll just say good luck with your build, will be watching to see how it all turns out.....Cool Cool

Regards

Alan
