if you buy an a/l kit you normally get a couple of wooden pedestals and a baseboard without any holes. all i have done in the past is drill through the base board into the bottom of them and put a screw through. then the keel usually fits straight into the slot, keeping it in place.

however those look like metal, and judging by the size of the surprise i don't think they are going to hold very well. if there is sideways movement then the keel could actually rip off.

i know these come as part of the kit, but you would be better off using another method, or even make a better stand yourself. sorry i could not have been any real help.Confused Confused

Hi thanks for your input, having just looked at the build instructions for it part 28 the ones on the buid instructions are solid and they tell you to:

90and glue the fooboard supports 545, centring them correctly, and the ship’s name
plate 546 onto the footboard 547.
Congratulations! You have completed HMS SURPRISE, one of the most famous frigates of
the 18th century!
