Hi first of all a change of plan on the etch.after building some of it up decided it much to delicate for working model.you were right Steve.I will use the grills.an do bit of scratch building ie the s mines. Anyway I modified the towing loops as they nearly always fell off on previous tanks never to be seen again.I drilled an tapped them m1, to take steel bolt , much stronger now.the back end all bolted on for pic purposes, as will need taking off for painting.remember not to put glue on side fenders at front where they contact front armour plate.as this needs to be removable for maintenance purposes.next job get some paint on her.cheers an happy moddelling mick. mogwai attached the following image(s): Builds hms victory, suzuki gsx 1300 R hayabusa, honda C B 750, lamborghini countach L P 500 S, tamiya 1/16 rc full option tiger 1 tank, built, Mclaren M P 4 - 23. Hi bin playin around with the paint finish want on this tank.it be basic grey with worn winter cam.I primed it with Halfords grey , then matt black.two coats of german grey drybrushed on, don't own a spray gun.then 3 coats of white wash.last one washed through in places.then rust around bolts and welded seems, as thought this be where they likely to rust through first.then finally mud flicked on with toothbrush. Anyway kinda like it so will go with this on rest of tank.the last pic comparison with plain grey wheel.cheers and happy moddelling mick. mogwai attached the following image(s): Builds hms victory, suzuki gsx 1300 R hayabusa, honda C B 750, lamborghini countach L P 500 S, tamiya 1/16 rc full option tiger 1 tank, built, Mclaren M P 4 - 23. Excellent work Mick and those wheels look very realistic - well done!!
Very interesting the way that you've achieved the effect, thanks for the insight and also that you've carefully thought about where the rust might occur naturally rather than just being completely random when applying it? It's also especially interesting that you achieved it with a brush? Just goes to show that an airbrush isn't necessary if you take your time and use thin enough paint, then it becomes hard to tell the difference between the two methods and imho brush painting is easier (and more fun)?
A great build all round Mick and one which I shall be following with interest 'til the end!!

Hi thank you all for your kind comments much appreciated. Me really enjoying this.me trying to put me self in the shoes of lowly private or crewman, given a tub of white wash an a brush, given the job of paint that.this will be one of the 503rds division tank.I see from my tiger reference book they had there own unique storage box on back of turret.so will be scratch building this.cheers and happy moddelling mick. Hi still playing around with paint.this only second model in me life I tried to weather.so trying to sort out what I want is fun.but this be how like this one rather tatty old tiger.the pitted rust is just sawdust glued to model prier to painting. Probably mad idea but seems to work.cheers and happy moddelling mick. . mogwai attached the following image(s): Builds hms victory, suzuki gsx 1300 R hayabusa, honda C B 750, lamborghini countach L P 500 S, tamiya 1/16 rc full option tiger 1 tank, built, Mclaren M P 4 - 23. Question. The smike generators you arenusingndo they very output with the engin speed or just a constant flow? “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain
