Thanks Alan,

Well I have been in the process of adding more brass. I am a bit dissappointed how it looks under macro zoom and then zoomed in even more Blink It looks like I just dipped the parts in super glue and the threw the PE on LOL Dam you macro zoom LOL LOL

In reallty its not too bad and hopefully will look pretty good under a little primer, fingers crossded.

Hi Dave, macro always appears to show up all the minor little flaws that just can't be seen with the naked eye....BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin but its what you see with the naked eye that is really important... From what I see I think you're doing a cracking job so keep doing what you're doing.....Cool Cool .. Look forward to your next update....

Thanks Andy and Alan BigGrin

More progress made and more PE, should start seeing a bit more PE now according to the instructions.

As much as I really like the Voayger PE set I have noticed that they even include the parts that are included with the kits own PE, this is something I really dislike and dont understand, especially when it is no better then the PE provided with the kit. I guess they are just trying to bulk up their frets.

That's all for a few days as off to Amsterdam tomorrow morning

BigGrin Nice work on the PE, sometimes the replacement PE is better than what is provided with the kit but at other times no better so its your choice on what to use really.Cool

Lovely work so far Dave, you're making an excellent job of this and it will certainly be one VERY detailed model when finished given the extra details that you are adding - very well done, watching with interest!! Cool Drool ThumpUp

Thanks Kev BigGrin

I have made a little progress on this, not getting much model time this week as have man flu as well as working 12 hour night shifts.

I have finished the rear plate so far, the photoetch clamps will hold a log in place which I will paint separately and then stick on at the end.

I also made a start on the first sideskirt, there is a lot of little parts that build up to make this, even more on the other side. I have just dry fitted the skirt to the body now to give an idea of how it will look, still more to add to it. I will paint the skirts off of the main body as I wont be able to get some of the wheels on once they are attached.

The fuel tanks are just dry fitted at the moment and need a little work on some seams.

Excellent work again Dave - well done!! Cool ThumpUp

I am experienced enough using etch to not let it worry me but I really don't envy you with the amount that you have to add here, there seems to be a lot of brass going into this even if it is ultimately an improvement to the kit!! Blink Blink Scared

Keep up the good work Dave, watching this build with interest. Cool

Thanks Kev BigGrin

I must admist there does seem to be some areas where there is being etch added where there is some perfectly accetable molded on detail although I have reached a point where I have used a chisel blade to take off some of the molded detail on the skirts and replaced with etch.

I do suspect that this etch kit was originally made for an earlier less detailed kit and then just modified for this kit. I will just continue to pick and choose between the molded on detail and etch as and when it comes to it.

Not a lot done as work is still icredibly busy at the moment, we are into the final week now. I did have a dilemma as I was thinking I would need to assemble the skirts off the body so I could put the wheels on after I had started to paint the base colour then the skirts on after, however some of the etch connected to parts that were attached to the main body which left me with trying to work out how I would get the wheels on after the skirt.

After lots of pondering it hit me, I was being completely dumb Blushing The only wheels that needed to go on were the idlers and return wheel, these are both painted in the base colour only and no rubber tyres, SO, it didnt matter if they went on now LOL on they went and on the side skirt went.

In the pictures the fuel tanks are still only dry fitted as I wanted to show how the tank it starting to take its shape now, and what a beautiful shape it is BigGrin

You will a picture from the back that shows a photo etch clip that looks like it should have something in it, there is a big log that is held across the back in these, the log will be going on at the ended as will be painted detached for ease.

Just started work on the second skirt.

Aah ... I remember when I got to this point in my modelling career Dave.

It seems you have reached the realisation that we all eventually come to once we start getting involved with the use of photo-etch to enhance a model, in that it isn't at all necessary to use every last piece of etch that is included in the pack JUST because it's there? Unfortunately, the problem with etch is that it is made from flat brass sheets and is therefore inherently 2D, so trying to replace a 3D plastic kit part with 2D brass is always going to be a bit of a problem and not necessarily always an improvement? Only using the best pieces of an etch set and chucking the rest in the spares box is something that is the norm with any experienced modeller, and is definitely the best approach to take. I do it myself. Part of the reason that so many pieces of etch are included in these etch sets that aren't an improvement over the standard kit part, is one of money or profit and the need by the etch producer to be seen to be providing a lot of parts which people then mistakenly see as value for money, otherwise they would struggle to sell their wares at the high prices they do?

Stick with the idea of only replacing the kit parts than can be significantly improved with the etch Dave and you'll produce a far better model in the end than you ever would by blindly using every last bit of rather flat looking brass that comes in the kit? It just makes sense really.

Well done Dave looking great so far and watching with interest. Cool ThumpUp

Thanks for the comment Kev, I am doing as you say and just picking and choosing the etch to use, at least I will have some to add to a spares box when this is finished BigGrin

I have pretty finished the chasis and now made a start on the turret.

The kit is going together really nicely with only a few very minor fit problems that require no more than a little bit of filing. There is one plate that sits on top of the chasis just behind the turret that has gap after fitting but nothing a tiny bit of filler wouldnt sort.

After looking at the instructions for assembling the tracks I am a little puzzled. The tracks are of the individual link type however they are not workable and require gluing, so how am I supposed to glue them and then wrap them around the wheels in the correct shape? surely the glue would have dried by the time I get all the links glued.

Any advise from experienced armour builders grealty appreciated
