Hi Art if you have a look at Whizgigs build page 5 post 101 it shows the stern and the way he did it Hope this helps Rgd Martyn Building ? Completed. Soliei Royal . Sovereign of the Seas . Virginia . Thanks Martyn. I think Whizgig too a slightly different path to me as he shaped the stern section to the infill provided which seems to be too narrow to plank directly to. So I what I have decided to do is to build up the sides and plank horizontally on top of the infill. This seems to provide the right profile for the gallery piece to fit properly.

Well, I've now finished the first pass at the planking. Bow and stern are still looking a bit like a dog's breakfast but nothing that woos filler and sanding won't fix, I hope!

Well done on the planking Art. I agree that filler does tend to make a mess of all that hard work, and as you say, sanding will do it justice. This is going to be a great build and I shall keep following avidly. Happy building David

Ok. Started the second planking job. This is proving to be very tricky indeed, particularly around the bow with its sharp curves in multiple planes. Like trying to plank an orange! Art attached the following image(s):
