Wasn't thinking about that yet, but there is plenty of underside to them for experiments It's not quite rubber, more like a soft plastic, so maybe it will be ok to key them with fine sandpaper, wash thoroughly, spray with Halfords plastic primer and then paint with normal acrylics? Then clear on top of that. Have to have a closer look on the pictures of the real thing to see what kind of finish the seats have in 1:1. Hi Michal Planking is an art learned through trial and error and everyone has there prefered way to do it, non are wrong its just what you are happy with. One other thing to remember with planking is every off cut can be used again as a wedge to fill that gap or as that filler to make that plank go all the way. AS you already know I have this kit and will be doing the R/C version but this will entail the internal sealing of the hull with laminating epoxy and some carbon fiber or glass fiber around the areas that need to be stronger. I think the seats and other parts are a plastic resin type material if you look closely at the seats they are made up of several parts glued together. I have not checked as yet if the instructions give any indication on the best way to paint these parts but the underneath can be used as a test bed for sealing and finishes with acrylics or other paints Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

The manual covers the construction, but doesn't give much information about finishing, materials or any other tips. You need to research paints, varnish and the like yourself. Which is a part of the fun, if I may say so. Small update. The planking continues, with noticeably reduced amount of despair and anguish. Also prepared the plywood insert for the floor of the overnight cabin - sanded and dyed mahogany. Yep, that's the nightmare of the week past: And here it is again, the progress downwards (upwards actually) also shows the other progress, the one from 'I can't plank' to 'well, maybe I can now, just a bit'. On this picture the boat is crooked, not the planks - they are growing very symmetrically on both sides: On some of the pictures you can already see the lovely lines of this boat. It's getting quite sweet if I may say so. There are about 8 planks left to lay down on each side, which with about 20 minutes per plank means that in 5 hours I'll be done with planking of the sides. Then there will be a long break in planking - the varnishing will begin. Well, at least the varnishing of internal panels. Can't wait to see all this mahogany shine! Hi guys, Thanks for looking in and all your kind comments. Another small-ish update, in which we show mostly planks. A lot of planks. So, during the last week (and especially the weekend) I was mostly completing the planking - which has been finished yesterday. Today I spent some time pulling out all the nails - and to be honest, I never expected it to take so long, I spent at least two hours pulling nail after nail. But hey, it was fun! I've seen women spending the same amount of time over ten nails, and I had like, two thousand or some similarly ridiculous number. Anyway, nails gone, so it was time to sand - thank you Mr Dyson for your wonderful vacuum cleaner, or I might be already packing my stuff ;-) Sanding was done using a simple trick that I've read about somewhere - draw lines across your planks with a pencil, sand until they are gone. Lines: Less lines: Fast forward 4h, look Ma, no lines: Silky smooth: More silky-smoothiness (the dark lines are not uneven planks but the glue between them where they do not touch perfectly): Well, what can I say... planks. But hey, they're smooth! Smooth-lines of more planks: Yep, more planks! On a boat! Surprise photo of some planks: You didn't expect THAT, did you? Yep, planks. Smooth planks. I haven't got anything else for you today, so continue only if you really really like smooth planks. I surely do. Anyway, there are some small bits and pieces where the planks will meet the deck that have no planks on them (yet). I plan to plank the deck first then fill the missing bits having plans in hand and making sure they meet like they should. Next step: varnishing the internal mahogany panels. I will miss you, planks. Hi guys, thank you for your comments... Next update will be some work on the stern and varnishing of the internal mahogany panels. Also some work on the flooring. Then planking of the deck. I think I will start doing the 2nd layer of planks in about 2 weeks time. So, didn't have the time to do much recently but I did one thing: a bit of sanding and the first layer of varnish on the mahogany panels inside the cabin. It brought the lovely color and the gloss started to slowly build up. I'll be putting a layer a day for the next two weeks so I'll be slower on the updates, but I'll also try to work on the upholstery in the meantime. In other news, my Xmas gifts just came in. That's a hefty box, cat added for scale. I know what's inside as I had my input in the selection of the kits but unfortunately I'm not allowed to open until it's time - but I'll post an unboxing review then. An approximation of the box content: and Any images I post on my personal builds are free to be used and shared under Creative Commons Attribution license, which means you can do what you want with them, on the condition you mention I'm the author.
