Another quick update. I have built the Gee indicator unit which sits behind the pilots seat. Eduard provide a replacement instrument facia for this comprising a coloured etch panel face, 2 tiny switches, a knob and a handle which replace the plastic instrument face part. Instead of filing off the raised detail on the Tamiya part I replaced it with a piece of plasticard of the same thickness. Pic 1 shows the 2 halves of the unit glued together with filler applied to the seam (but not yet sanded down) together with the kit panel and the replacement plasicard and Pic 2 shows the plastcard glued to the unit. Pic 3 shows the Eduard etch pieces and pic 4 shows them glued together. Pic 5 shows the completed unit with the decal applied. It was only on viewing the picture just now that I noticed the decal is slightly off centre and off horizontal. It just shows what the macro facility on the camera pics up as you can hardly notice this by eye. I will probably try to rectify this using micro sol now I know its there . Fabulous work with the upgrades Graeme and as has been said already, the 'Gee' apparatus is definitely much improved with the colour etch. I love the look of that screen with the green pulse lines, looks very realistic, but I would leave things as they are, even if they are slightly out of position or you may just make it worse in trying to rectify things?!
Super job, really enjoying this build - well done Graeme!!

Thanks for looking in guys.
Kev, you are probably right, if I try and rectify the decal I would most likely end up tearing it.
Jase, I agree the kit doesn't require much in the way of enhancement but those Eduard parts do make a difference - up to now at least.

I have done a bit of work on the navigators armored seat back. Pic 1 shows the Tamiya part for the lower half of the back. Pic 2 shows the same part after the molded on instruments have been removed together with the Eduard replacement instrument parts. Pic 3 is of the full armored back with the instrument panel and view port masked off. Pick 4 shows the completed seat back after spraying and the Eduard parts attached. I have also started to assemble the Eduard fabric seat belts - the pilots seat belts are shown in Pic 5. The assembly of these certainly test your hand-eye coordination under a magnifying lamp. Hi, I have removed this project from the 'build of the year' as there is no way it will completed by the deadline. The build stalled as other projects took over but will be restarted shortly. Graeme

That's a shame Graeme, perhaps give some though to an entry for 2017 which gets underway on the 1st Jan

I have finally got back to this build. I didn't realise how long it had been until I just came to post this update. I have now finished the cockpit tub and started on the inner fuselage halves. Pic 1 shows one of the Eduard etch foot pedals next to the plastic kit part - a definite improvement. Pics 2 & 3 show the cockpit with the seats fitted whilst Pics 4 & 5 show it with the instrument panels and nose machine guns fitted. All the panel faces are from the Eduard etch set. Pic 6 shows the right half of the front fuselage with its instrumentation fitted. That's it for now Graeme pemberg attached the following image(s):
