Thanks MrT, can I just confirm that turning the needle valve and Idle screw aniclockwise increases fuel and turning clockwise reduces fuel input? I keep re reading all the info re carb. and although it's very detailed and speaks of the valves enabling richer/leaner mixture, I can't see where it says which way to turn screws to do this.
Engine now out and pull cord unit disassembled. Easier than I anticipated, just waiting for new cord to arrive in post. So with all the info, hopefully I can report more sucess next week. Back to painting bits until then. Thanks
Phil

All the engine info is noted on the Kyosho info sheet which is a sticky in the RB7 discussion section

The idle screw does not allow fuel in, it increases/decreases the air intake which adjusts the idle speed

Thanks MrT, that's exactly the detail I've been looking for. Sorry I didn't know it was there. I'll make sure I check out stiky's in future as will save both you & me time. Here's looking forward to some happy running.

Make sure the carb is fully open when you put fuel directly in to prime and before you put the glow starter on the plug pull the starter a couple of times to get the fuel in the engine. Also if you have left your engine a couple of days since it was last run it might be worth applying After Run Oil which can help next times start up and also it looks after your engine.

Just an update, today managed to run 2nd complete tank of fuel through. Quite difficult to keep engine running initially but with slight adjustment to needle valve / air/mixture screw engine ran smoothly for remainder of tankful (engine still emiting fuel / lubricant for tail pipe, so not running too lean). Engine easier to start today (after much research). I think this was mainly due to ensuring I primed system before trying to start. I did put 2/3 drops of fuel directly into carb as well. For info (and from research) what worked for me was taking fuel pipe off manifold (ensuring end was clean) and blowing through this until I saw fuel reach the needle valve. I have also read of putting finger over tail pipe and pulling start cord to suck fuel through but this did not work for me. Looking forward to another fine day when I can run next tankful and try it out on some Tarmac.

Third tank of fuel run today, much easier to start following priming regime and engine kept going. First outing on tarmac, car performed well and very responsive to all controls. Thanks to everyone's helpBigGrin
