After a bit of a break I realised I needed to get back to this, I don't wont to turn into someone that starts lots of kits and never finishes any.

I started by spraying the cockpit parts light grey and then proceeded with the slow painful task of applying the photo etch cockpit details.

I was really surprised how good the etch looks, it builds up in layers so that it doesn't look so 'flat'. Still more to do but its starting to get there. Then I will start painting the details and assembling the seats.

A quick dry fit of the panels to see how it will all look

Nice work Dave.

Nice work on the etched parts Dave, looking really good. Might be worth dropping a little clear varnish into the instrument faces to give an illusion of glass just to take it to another level?

Excellent work and looking forward to seeing this progress - well done Dave.

Thanks for stopping buy and the comments all.

Kev, that a great tip, I've been having a think how I can give it a bit more of a glass look and didn't actually think of clear varnish, thanks.

Looks awesome Dave. Love it when cockpits have lots of p.e and painted well.

After spending many days searching high and low, turning out drawers, cupboards and boxes it appears that a portion of aftermarket parts I purchased for this have gone a stray. I have a feeling some stuff got mixed up and thrown out by mistake when the ex moved out. Its very annoying that this has happened but it is what it is and I will continue the build with what I have left.

The PE for the seats was one of the sets that have disappeared so the seats will remain in their basic kit form, I will now model this with the canopies closed so it wont be as noticeable.

I have now inserted the cockpit tub and glued the two parts of the fuselage together. I spend quite some time working on the seam, it was horrible. I also attached the nose cone after filling it up with tiny weights. At this point I wanted to get a layer of primer down to see how my work on the seam came out so down with a layer of Stynylrez primer, this stuff is amazing.

You cant see it too well but I need to do a little more work on the seam, I'm thinking some Mr Surfacer 500 or 1000 will do the trick.

Ive also started to assemble the wing assembly, this is where you start to appreciate how big this thing will be.

Last picture shows the new spray booth I purchased, basically the same as the old one just with built in LED lighting. It works a treat.

Nice work Dave and missing PE set or not, I'm sure it'll look fab when finished, always liked the FGR Mk.2, one of the better looking Phantoms to my eye.

Well done!!

Thanks for the comments all.

I still have some of the PE as it was in the Phantoms box, as well as some of the other aftermarket parts such as masks, wheels and crew ladder, I think I have the metal wheel strut too however the resin engines and vents are gone :(.

I never thought of the over spray on the lights Andy, they do have covers over the LEDs so I might wrap them in cling film and see how that goes.

Thank Alan

A little bit more progress made.

The air intakes have been painted black inside and had the covers attached. The seams look terrible in the picture because of the bit of black overspray although the seam does need a little work. Once done it will all be misted over with primer again.

When the fuselage is offered up to the wing section you really get a sense of the size of this thing.

Nice work on the intakes Dave, a bit of 'Mr Surfacer 500' should sort out the seams nicely for you. Making good progress with this and she's really starting to look like a Phantom now.

Nice update, looking forward to seeing more, well done!!
