Thank you for the encouragement gentlemen, managed to get the lower deck planking completed today but I was getting a bit anxious towards the end as I only had 4 spare planks left over...no room for errors here.
There are a couple of areas on the deck plate edges at the edges between former's 14 and 18 which require a little trimming on both sides, not a big problem will tackle that tomorrow..

Thank you guys, I trimmed the sides of the deck plate today where they were protruding past the former's, that was quite easy..
Next step the hull free-board planking, this is the part which has caused me sleepless nights thinking about it, waking up in a cold sweat and nightmares.....I have read and re read, looked at all the other builds many times on this forum and I seem to be more confused than ever..
Started today trying to line up the former's and gluing on shims where I think they are required but seem to be going round in circles. Took a step back another deep breath and a bit more logic, this is going to take a while thought I, no need to rush got the weekend ahead hope to have more news by the end of it..Tomorrow is a new day.

Whilst checking out the former alignment i couldn't help but notice that former 23 at the rear is an odd shape and doesn't line up with 22 & 24 in fact it is straight rather than curved inwards, is this correct as the planking at this point will be a bit hectic???

Still grappling with the former alignment, done with the RHS (Starboard?)and temporarily fitted some planks (no glue yet) look's like it's going to work out o/k just got to measure the exact location of the planks onto the former's and then check it again then do the same back to the stern from former 16.

Hi Barry.
Yes the rib is that shape. Once planked all is ok. Plus the admirals room is there so some of that is cut out.
Setting up the first run of planks is one of the hardest things. You will get there.
Looking great the, doing a grand job.
Chris

Thank's Chris, I've already shaved a bit off those former's think it will be o/k though. The planking thing for a first timer seems a daunting task, as you say where to start, bending and getting them to sit right!!
Joncal sent me some detailed pics and description on how to start, now feeling a lot happier about it, I've marked the former's where the planks need to fit and test laid a couple (still no glue yet) using the Deag recommended 25mm from the bottom of the lower deck to the bottom of the first plank for the whole length of the hull....even did a bend test...time to break open the glue..

Phew, eventually got all the former's to line up (I think) Got the glue ready, I'm going to use thick viscosity cyano (super glue) to fix the planks to the former's about 4 at a time, this gives me time (about 10-15 sec) to ensure the plank is is the correct place before it sets and then white wood glue between the planks. I used this method on a couple of RC aircraft I scratch built and it worked a treat.
The first couple of planks fitted as per Deag instructions and help from the forum 25mm below the lower deck plate for the entire length of the model.

That looks like a sweet start to your planking.

Always well worth spending some time at this stage as it sets the course for the rest of the planks.

Well Done.

Great start on your planking, I see you had the same idea as me by getting a couple full length planks to get going. It makes the task of straight lines easier and the rest of the planks have a good foundation to build down or up from.

Thank's once again for your support gents, really appreciated..
Chris...Don't have the luxury down here to get hold of materials easily so I have to make do with what I have or "make a plan" I used the short planks supplied and if you look real close you'll see the joints.
Trying out your method without using nails seems to be holding up o/k, got to say I'm a little nervous....
Here's a pic from the front with 5 planks laid...do some more tonight.

As long as you clamp and shape the planks and use plenty wood glue you will be fine. Just remember to clean off the excess glue from the planks. Oh and plenty dry time.
Your doing a top job on her.
