The chassis is finished, I have not glued the transfer box and drive shafts in place as the exhaust will need to go in first and that will need rusting up first.

The chassis has now been primed with red oxide, and after some research it seems everything was primed with red oxide!
I have included one of my 1:35th scale Tiger builds to show the size of the Jeep, its rather large!

Looking good, I dont understand why they would make a kit in this scale without engine detail. Glad you are thinking of getting the extra engine kit though.

Can the engine be fitted as an afterthought or do you have to incorporate it during the build?

Also many of the 1/16 Trumpeter Tank kits don't have engine or interior which seems ludicrous at that scale!

Hi Steve, the main tub and the chassis are screwed together so if I get the engine it can be fitted at anytime. It does seem daft to produce a kit this big without a full engine and gearbox, especially when you can open the bonnet (hood if your west of the pond)! And as Tomick has pointed out, some of the Trumpy kits in 1:16 don't have engine or interior which is really daft at that scale. I will only buy the kits with a full interior now. If I can scrape the funds together I will get the engine, its not a must for the build end date and can be added anytime, but I really would like it fitted so I can show it with the bonnet open and a nicely filled bay instead of an empty space!

Wow that is BIG.

its really annoying they dont include the engine. Dragon actually made an engine kit for this kit and it was really nice, but it was only available at a show so it is REALLY rare.

Come on Dragon.Re-release that engine.

I have the SAS version of this kit and it does have some of the engine bay components-just not the engine itself.

I find it surprising Trumpeter doesnt have interior detail for their 1/16 tank kits. They seem to like giving you thousands of tiny pieces of plastic to glue together-That is certainly the case with their 1/200 ship kits.

Dragon are re-releasing the Willys Jeep in August, no word yet if it will include the engine, doubt it but can live in hope.

At the 2008 DX'08 Dragon Expo, as enticement to buy they offered dealers and show vistors an engine with each Willys order. I hear it was around just 100 engine kits available worldwide, no wonder they are rarer than hen's teeth..

Thanks for the comments everyone. Looking at the picture Tomick put up off the Dragon engine it has the gearbox and looking at the Shapeways engine it doesn't look like it does! What a dilemma!! Will have to ponder this one me thinks, its alot of money if I then have to try and fabricate a gearbox!!

yes I noticed that too.Scratchbuilding a gearbox will be fun!!At least you will have the shape of the front of the gearbox from the back of the engine, but its a funny shape.3D printing would be the way to go if you have access to one.
