Keep it up Jim, your are at a great stage, the hull planking is good fun, very frustrating, but once its done and sanded it can look good, and gives you a feeling of "Hey I've done that!!" if you understand what I mean. Come on you Jimmies

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I have lined up the medication, the straight jacket and the bottles of whiskey. Everything I need to plank a ship. Take care all. Jim

Looking good! You and I are at around the same issue I think - just doing the next row of gunports myself.

Thanks guys. I am enjoying the planking. Although, I am finding the instructions are getting more and more vague, just as I am needing them to become more clear. I think they call that Irony I am just winging it and hoping for the best. Thanks Jim

Hi Guys.
Here are a couple of pictures of where I am up to now. Put some more planking in, and just finished the third row of gun ports. I am very happy with it at the moment. Think the Victory is starting to take shape.
Soon on to the hard planking. So expect to pull some more hair out!?!?
thanks
Jim

Hi Jim, Your model is looking good. Just a quick tip re the lower planking at the bow re my own build experience. Start to taper the bow planks from about the 2nd or 3rd row and you will be able to extend all the planks right through to the bow without to much trouble, you will still need the odd drop plank. It is very easy to fit several rows without any tapering at all but the planks start to rise quite quickly and then the fun really starts as I know to my cost.Ended up by stripping back 8/9 rows of bow planks on both sides to correct the problem. Hope this info is of some use to you. From a newbee who is learning the hard way. Regards CMB

Hi CMB, Thanks for the warning. I gotta say that I am feeling a little daunted by the bottom planking. But I suppose I will just have to dive in.
But I will heed your warning.
Jim

Hi Jim your build is looking great. just take your time its not a race. I found it useful to soak the planks in hot water for 30 minuets, then fit the plank wet and let it dry overnight, then take it off taper it if you need to and bobs your uncle.just do 2 planks like this at a time and you will get there!!! Hi Guys,
Just finished the first four lines of hard planking. And finished lining all of the gun ports.
So I thought I would post a few pictures. Loved doing the planking and am really pleased with how it is turning out.
Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim! You need to tape the planks at the stern mate, check this link before you go to far or you will have very bad clinkering problems. http://forum.model-space...s&m=22489#post22489
Hope this information helps your build Jim.

Well Done Jim! At least the sanding doesn't take as long as the planking. Enjoy the rest of the build mate!

Hi Jimbo... When i was it this stage and it was the first build ever, i ended up over soaking the planks and this came in handy when heat bending for the forward planks. hope this helps and your build is looking good. regards, Ian Ian Builds in progress: E-type, HMS Victory, HMS Endeavour, HMS Soverein of the Seas Wish list: Bentley Blower http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&m=30439
