Thanks Ken.
The basically OOB idea has gone out the window already.
I've ordered the upgrade fittings kit and I want to add light weathering to the engine etc. Nothing drastic, but enough to make it (hopefully) look a bit more realistic. I also want to add the missing wiring/plumbing and the umpteen missing engine gaskets that are visible on the real bike.
I'm just awaiting the Koo DVD and replacement fittings, then I'll begin.
Roy.

The Koo dvd is a great help with this build and the hardware pack makes a big difference over the standard fasteners. I'm presently retrofitting it to mine. Looking forward to seeing yours come together Roy.

Well, a tiny start as there isn't really much I can do until the hardware set arrives. I can't see much point in assembling lots of bits only to take them all apart again when the new fittings turn up. However, plug caps have had the plastic wiring pins cut off and metal ones added. Caps are now fitted to the top covers and the central moulded hex bolt painted silver. One head has been assembled and the upper face filed flat as they halves were a bit uneven as assembled. I'm going to add gaskets between the head and top as they are visible on the real thing. Roy. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

I'm just playing about with some of the larger engine parts at present. Most of it isn't screwed together as I'm going to add the missing gaskets when my gasket material turns up. Also, a lot of the fixings will be replaced by the new hardware. The little Humbrol tin is just to give a sense of the size of this thing. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Just about reached a brick wall now. Not much more I can do until the hardware and gasket material arrive. Roy. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Should be a fun 'ride'
What are you going to use for the gaskets?

Hello Dennis. Nice to another member peeping in. The gasket material is actually double sided sticky black foam, 1mm thick. All I did was sit the relevant part on it, draw round with a fine marker and then cut the 'gasket' out. Peel off the backing and stick in place. You have to be careful with placing it right first time as it's mega-sticky and disintegrates if you try to peel it off. Next, peel off the backing on the other face, put the part in place then add the screws etc. Being foam, it squashes nicely down to about 0.5mm TBH, I would have preferred it to be a red/brown, but they don't do that colour. It comes from ebay. 10 x A4 sheets for £5. Enough gaskets for almost every car/bike I ever build. http://www.ebay.co.uk/it...Name=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

This is going to be amazingly detailed Roy! One question though; are you going to put petrol in the tank? Regards, Phil W. That hardware kit is great Roy, did you get his decal set as well?

I didn't get the decals set. I'll have a peep at it though.
I need to get a 2mm thread tap as the hardware set doesn't come with one, although there is a 2.5mm. Strange, as the instructions with the hardware tell you to tap the 2mm holes to take the bolts.

If memory serves I think he did a separate tap set as well to cover 1.7, 2, and 2.3. these I think covered all the screw types supplied in the kit.

An added frustration I've just found - one of the diecast components has been badly moulded and one end has two screw hole mounting lugs missing. Spare needed... As it's a side cover on the engine it shouldn't hold me up too much. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Not off to a great start...
I've fitted three 2mm hex bolts, but already the provided hex wrench is stripped internally and doesn't tighten the bolts.
Anyone know where I can get a replacement in the UK?
I know Paul Koo will help, but he's in the US and it will be at least a week before a replacement arrives - and very possibly the same thing will happen as the provided tool seems to be made of a rather soft metal.
Help...!
