Woah - We've definatley got interest then.
My thoughts as per materials are American White Oak as it's one of my favourite woods to work with. A striaght grain makes it strong, resists warping and easier to work with. Also it's a light colour so wouldn't detract too much attention away from the model and then glass rather than perspex.
If you guys are all happy with this then I'll start looking at costs based on this spec. Obviously you may not all want the same but I think this would give us a good idea of pricing as white oak isn't the cheapest or the most expensive.
I'll keep you informed over the coming weeks as to price idea.

Blue_Joe wrote:Guys Looking at the custom cabinets site, and all the talk of people wanting ideas for cabinets - I'm willing to offer up my services!!! I'm a joiner by trade and make a reasonable amount of furniture and custom items for people and am currently re-building my workshop to tailor more for this. So... I'm willing to offer custom cabinets made to the spec people want, out of most types of wood. Anything built would be to a VERY high standard, however I worked out that on teh cainets site the cost to make a cabinet big enough to fit the victory would be at least £350 + delivery. I however could make your cases for a much more affordable price!!! Obviously price would be subject to the materials you want, and whether glass or perspex. However let me gauge interest from you, if I have a reasonable amount of interest then I can start looking at prices for you. I can assure you thought it will be far better than that of the company above and far better quality than using a upturned fish tank lol Sam so what next do you want dimensions to give a quote? “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Hi Sam Please count me in as an interested member. Looking forward to your pricing and your design. I think the white oak will display the painted and unpainted models to their best. Since I am hoping to have my model painted and coppered on one side (display side)I would like you to consider a mirror on the back instead of glass. This would show off my cut out and unpainted natural side. I do not think the mod should alter your design in any way. By the way after 5 days of sanding I am almost ready to start planking. First Build HMS Victory and HMS Endeavour Also Krick steam boat "Victoria" Cheers Ivan (Ordinary Seaman) http://www.old-glossop.com

I too would be interested Blue.I presume you would need to know the materials of individual preference before giving a quotation, as you already know the dimensions needed for the case. Thanks Daffy09
