Yep, it`s a lot of colours, but when you work out that 10 of them are for the aircrew, 3 are to be mixed for the airframe then a few for some minor parts/plates/internal equipment, then you`ve got gloss and flat of the same colour in some places, it boils down to about 5-6 main colours. Certainly means I shouldn`t have to buy any paint for a while. Looking forward now to get this going. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Jase Hi Jase, The book is an excellent reference and tips production for this build. My half hearted model shop in town only sell Humbrol paints, but I have a Games Workshop that is great for primers, washes etc. The staff in there are very helpful, so popping in tomorrow for a chat. Thanks for looking in. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi All, Whilst doing a bit of research into the Swordfish, I came across this video. It`s the start up procedure of a Mk2, but wouldn`t think it`s much different to the Mk1. Don`t think its a case of horsepower more muscle power. Take a look: Starting a Fairey SwordfishRegards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Well after a bit of a delay there is some progress. Some basic assembly of the pilot seat support frame and the middle seat, then primed and base colours added. Next added some etch to the main cockpit floor having removed a plastic part (position arrowed in red), primed and then given it`s base colours. Now I had several choices. Straight build with crew. Straight build without crew. Etch build without crew. The differences being wether I went with max etch as in the third choice or do I make a compromise. I`ve gone for the compromise. This means that there is a fourth choice with all three crew, but I will be adding bits of the etch so they look strapped into their seats. Better than having the crew but not visibly strapped into the seats. So I`ve done a basic paint job on the pilot, but it needs a little tidy up job and his right arm which has to be positioned when in his seat. So that`s it for now. More soon. Thanks for the positive comments guys. There are choices galore in this kit especially when you add the optional etch and the specific Tamiya etch. All involve cutting away bits of the original plastic, filling holes, making holes etc etc. One thing for sure is that the way original parts fit together is great. (So far) I`ve done a little more after dinner: Detailed the rear instrument panel. and Painted the the side frames for the crew compartment. I`ve also added two pics to show how the parts fit together so well. There`s no here or there. It`s very accurate slots and tabs. Well done Tamiya. Made a little progress - mounted the pilots seat and supporting frame and made some decisions. Some decisions could be a bit do or die / that didn`t work now rework. "You`ll see what I mean". There are etch foot straps for the pilot (first pic). So removed the plastic ones and added the etch only to find out that the pilots feet are not positioned to fit either. Decision: He`s not ready to take off yet. The pilot fits very nicely into his seat as can be seen in pic 2. Floor a bit too shiney behind him so dirtied it up a bit. Pic 3 shows the plastic detail that`s added to the cockpit frames (Etch additions is the next job. Know this is where I`ve spent a lot of time working out the best way forward. The pilot and crew figures from the kit are very well detailed. The available etch provides 1st class seat belt system for all the crew. So, is it detailed crew in their seats or no crew and excellent belt systems draped over the seats? Decision made: Both well sort of a compromise. I`m putting in the pilot and crew, then adapting the etch belts to hopefully blend into the crews belt systems. So, pic 4 shows the start of the process. The easiest part first is the rear of the seat/over the shoulder straps of the pilot. The side to side lap straps are more detailed and will be more difficult to adapt so it`s the do or die moment. If this doesn`t work then the crew will need repainting and the etch will become scrap when removed as its so small. Part fixed still needs painting. Until next time.
