I don`t know anything about minicraft, so googled it and was suprised to see they have two kits on the market of the same ship and same scale. The "Centenary edition" model #11318 and the "Deluxe edition" model #11320. Apart from a price difference ($20) the only thing I can see different is that the deluxe version includes brass railings. Just wondering if you know any other differences as the web search shows nothing else other than the railings and if its cheaper to buy the railings seperately as an addition to the Centenary edition or buy the Deluxe edition straight off. Its one I`d like to add to my stash. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) Hi Derek, i belive they have released three kits but the two you menchon are the most recent. I think the name plate is differnt and not much else. WEM doe etch that fits this kit but Toms model works are the best you can get and may well be more accurate than the kit ones, but not sure of that. This gives some kit development history http://titanic-model.com...s/article1/article1.htm
Thanks Jase, will have a search around and see what comes up. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) The most recent production run of the Minicraft Titanic on their site is the most accurate of the Minicraft versions.
Here you go Derek, everything and anything you could ever want to know about Titanic and Titanic kits from people that live and breathe it... http://titanic-model.com
In my view, the Academy 1/400 premium edition Titanic will blow you away if you can find one that’s not silly money. It won the award for Model of the Year when released in 2010 and includes wooden decking and numerous photo-etched parts for enhanced detail. It’s also a Limited Edition release of just 1,500 units worldwide with each kit having it's own number. Kit ref is 14201. Check out the kit content: https://www.super-hobby....IC-PREMIUM-EDITION.html Its a loverly looking model but very little aftermarket support for any errors for that scale. I have seen a nice build of it in a book inthink will try and dig it out Looking at this error list link, there’s an awful lot more than just the officers cabin to correct on the Minicraft kit: http://rivet-counter.com...ation_Pages/27Hull.html

Yes there is a lot of alterations needed, lots of scratch build ing to do, I have the added problem of the finer optics to “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

In addition th the wood deck I have my first ever 3D replacement parts for the 8 cranes. the decal on the crane uprights is far superior to the kit part and is correctly scaled on the base housings it is so fine that it won't be seen until under paint, even my camera cannot pick the panel line and rivet detail. each housing is different and the sprue lists which on is which. they will need ladders and doors adding from the etch sets. I will also need to light them. Jasejase attached the following image(s): “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Another enhancement to my build will be the addition of lights. I have purchased a lighting set, but feel I may have to add to it? the set includes everything you need to illuminate the ship even engine lights for the funnels that give a burning glow, 4 are supplied bt only 3 needed. I may have to add additional finer optics and bulbs for them not sure yet

Nice idea on the lighting kit but I doubt furnace glow would have been visible from the 3 forward smokestacks.
Titanic’s numerous furnaces were connected to its three forward stacks by an elaborate arrangement of uptakes (finger-like branches), by which the smoke and waste gases were conveyed to the funnels which by its nature was complex - for example no less than twenty uptake branches being required for one funnel in the case of boiler rooms 3 and 4., And therefore it would be unlikely to see a furnace glow from the 3 funnel tops. The 'finger' uptakes shown below...Tomick attached the following image(s):

The final aftermarket addition is the obligatory etch.
Toms Modelworks is wildly consider the most comprehensive etch at this scale but it is not the only etch on the market, I used the WEM set on my Academy Titianic to great effect.
I have the complete sett of Toms model works etch for this build this covers all the windows, davits railings skylights life boat details, benches, deck chairs, crane updates reworked commas platform and numerous other goodies.
However even with the etch, the lights, the 3D parts and wood decks there is still some hefty remodelling to do, some to improve accuracy some to accommodate the lighting and rigging. I anticipate this build will take 3 times as long as a straight box build.
I will be kicking of in July but before now and then I will be collecting my research which I hope to be able to share as I go to give a build diary that details the modifications against the evidence. more on reference material soon

Hi Jase I bought the toms hardware set for my 1/400 Academy build, personally I thought the set very lacking (especially the window set) It's all looking good so far. Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Hi all I took the kit out of my stash today, I will be beginning the task of cross referencing instructions over the weekend.
I just wanted to share that the huge resource that was so itvalubul to kit builders and is referenced in this log, titanic-model.com has been taken down. I dont have any info on if this is permanent or not but it has been down since April.
I will be starting the hull prep in about a week just got a bit odds and ends to tidy up first, first build posed will be very soonJase“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain
