Hi there everybody, I am now 62.or will be next month..Crying like many of you, I cut my teeth on plastic models too, I think that I built most of them two or three times over the many years since my short trousers daysBlushing my last builds of plastic models were ships and Victory being one of them until back in the eighties I came home from work one day to find that my kids were floating my models in the garden pond and most ended up at the bottom of it Cursing believe me...the children almost suffered the same fate of my beloved models!! I gave it up for several years then saw an ad on TV build the Bounty in wood. I was smitten again, Titanic and Cutty Sark followed it though I must admit that Cutty Sark still sits in the shed minus its rigging because we downsized our home and I lost my favourite working space. My wife bought me the first issue of HMS Victory a few weeks back, whether she had a pang of guilt after depriving me of my favourite hobby for the past three years or she wants to get me out of her hair? I instantly fell in love with the new HMS VictoryLove ...I don't know what my wife's thought were when I commandeered our bedroom setting up all my old modelling tools on a table under the window? (payback time) he he. There is only one problem with this new build, I want to paint it as she was at Trafalgar, and it will be my first time painting a wooden ship (apart from the four basic colours on Titanic) but using water based colours...to this I am a newby..so, I like you look forward to this build, guess I have reached my second childhood after allLOL good luck with you builds my friends, I guess that we will all be reporting our progress on here from time to timeBigGrin

This is going to be my biggest challenge to date having not completed 'the bounty' but my experience with the bounty should hold me with a good heart to complete this If the pictures are anything to go by this should be exeptional Anyone disagreeBigGrin

Hi All,as others have said been modelling since knee high to a grape!
Thisis to be my first large wooden build, but have done smaller wooden and plastic boat kits for r/c and also r/c cars.Have given up the r/c now.
I have been given the Del Prado Bounty to build (was a weekly about 10 years ago),
this was started by it's previous owner who started issues 1-3 and then helpfully lost the parts-any suggestions where to get these parts or does anyone out there have the dimensions for these parts? This was to be a trainer/refresher before starting Victory, which will be a Winter project when the allotments are quieter.
All the best and Happy building to you all.

Hi all,
This will be my 2nd or 5th wooden model, depending on how you look at it and which others get completed 1st. I've just started the Granado and I have 3 others in storage. Endeavour (hull almost comeplete), Panarts Victory (lots of scratch building and on hold till I get a permanent workshop) and Astrolabe (messed up the planking as it was my 1st try and may never revisit her)

I figure the Victory as a once a week project when new parts arrive. I've only completed one model to date as moving keeps interupting the build process. The idea is to enjoy though, which I do a great deal.

Hi. Iv'e been modelling for 23yrs now mostly plastic planes. first was to throw out of the window with tissue stuffed in the back set on fire(wrong now)..But then got serious into it. Most have been broken now as the kids don't take care.lol..
The last few years I started using photo etch and weathering them to the best i could. This is my first Helicopter I built only 2 years ago then stopped for rc helicopters. But they so expensive to fix..lol then sold up at christmas and bought my SanFrancisco 2 from here .. as you may have seen my build diary..

On the bench

1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

Hi there, same here, moving interrupted my build of the Cutty Sark and it has been standing in the shed for the last couple of years, just dug it out again a few days ago with the intention of completing it while in between quiet spells on the Victory build..it didn't fair too well with that time in the shed so a restoration task is in hand there!! ...hope you enjoy your new construction. I post my reply in the wrong place,so here goe's. first model plastic santa maria,in 1955 from woolworths, price 6d=2.5d. I move on from thier to keilkraft scale rubber and solid fuel powered. and usually went up in a ball of fire because the balsa wood and dope was explosive.sometime a penny banger sufficed for the power source, and it really went with a bang.Tried control line flying next, but the combat mode was so distructive,i moved onto radio control flying.gliding first, too boring, powered next now were talking, fast aerobatic glow engines, and the the jet engined, yes real jets in miniture, actual speed 200mph, to fast and too dangerous,
needed a quiet slow hobby, and along come del prado who first done victory on a weekly basis, never stopped since, if you on board for :how good am I : you can see some pics.

It does seem like we have a great combination of experience along with folks that are new to the hobby .. should be great .. and I know from experience that the newer guys will teach a lesson or two to the rest of us as problems will be approached differently.

I've modelled on an off for about 30 years, the wooden veriety for about 10, though the going has been much slower, I do prefer it, which is what it's all about at the end of the day.

I've thrown in a shot of my only completed wooden build which is now on display in a pub in Madrid somewhere as I didn't want to move it once I was done.

Enjoy

Nice work Alex. As you say, the diversity of talent on board should see some wonderful conclusions to this romantic build.
