note the edges of the bulkhead,no brown edges, I have sanded them down to give the strakes maxium coverage with glue.I used an old strake fr this.the rear two formers are not stuck yet.

Strakes are the planks that go across the parts you see in the picture, thin strips of wood made from various types of quality, thin and fragile.

One you have the formers done the ship needs to be planked, by sanding down a little you have more area on the strakes (planks) to adhere to the wood.
When you get you strakes/planks you can position one without glue to make sure it sits flat on the formers.

Thanks Zeptrader
Do you recommend Gluing along the lengths of the planks ?? Or do you recommend add balsa ribbing for added strength ? If so how would you attempt it .
Thanks
Confused Confused Mald

I had never heard of Planks being called Strakes

Nope, if YOU are happy with your work (as you seem to be) then that is what matters.

You can always buy some brass strip from Cornwall Model Boats and I'm sure there are other suppliers. I bought some recently from local model shop. Get quite a lot for not much!

Karl,

Build looking mighty good so far.

Are the pics uploaded recently from the microscope? If they are, how far away is the scope (roughly) - I tend to have my scope about 5-10 cms away for the close ups. For things like the cannon, you can put the scope directly on top and over the cannon and then change the focus (having the led lights really helps in this matter).

Also, just out of curiosity, what is the make of the scope and what software / version are you using?

Mike
