Hi,

I have finished the keel jig, but modified it at the last minute and used the bow jig piece supplied, I felt it would probably hold the false keel bow better than the one i had fabricated.

Knowing this is a very important part of the build, it was quite stressing thinking had I got it straight, is the keel on the pencil line or just to one side of itConfused

I have glued two of the keel brace sets last night and the third is setting under pressure from two clamps.

The false keel appears to be 90 degrees to the jig base, but will double check everything tonight before I glue the first former in place. I will do one at a time, ensure correctly aligned and leave for a couple of hours before the next one is done!

i thought hobbies were supposed to be relaxingLOL

Help!!!

I have set all the formers on the false keel, but are getting a couple of formers where the bottom deck support is either about a mm lower or higher by about a mm for former 21 and another mm for 22. They are sat as far as possible on the false keel and are flush with the base and touching the jig base.

Is this acceptable or do i need to redo?

Regards
Claret

Hi Claret, I agree with Karl, the deck level towards the stern does start to rise slightly so if this is what you are referring to then it is right....

Hi is this the camber for the deck
If the deck lies totally flat sea water will not flow over the sides
Therefore there is a slope fwd to aft port to stbd

Hi Karl, Alan & Budgie,

Thanks for the replies.

Yes my main concern was the last two formers fitted, there is definitely an incremental increase in height, so thanks for your comments and putting my mind at rest.

One of the rib formers near the front appears to be slightly lower, hopefully tolerances etc effect this.

It was a bit of a late rush last night, will recheck the rib former at the front, and of course will have a much better understanding of how they all lie once I receive a replacement #13 in the next issue.

Again, thanks for your help.

Regards
Claret

Hi,

Latest update.

After steaming a bow former of and gluing it back, i was much happier with the result and have started to infill with balsa wood, ensuring everything is level and same distance each side from the adjacent former.

Results below:

Will continue tomorrow once the glue has had a good time to set.

Many thanks for your kind words and encouragement.

Hi,

After the boxing in, I proceed to sand into shape. This job is best done outside and took a few hours, even after cutting and sawing of any excessive balsa. not completely finished, but ran out of daylight todayCrying

Surprising how strong the model is for the balsa infils!!

Hi,

In between boxing in and waiting for the glue to set, I started the planking on the small boat, fiddly but found it okay to do.

glue and pins were the order of the day for this.
