thanks gents, the comments are most welcome,I need the encouragement, today's building is a bit of a disaster,Blushing when I finish the wiring, the next bit was fitting the lower deck, and lo and behold I could not get it in ,the reason my wiring stopped it!!!!! %^$&*()_"!+_)(*&^%$£"!,had to strip the lot out and start again WITH the lower gun deck installed.
it is now re-wired and working, started dry fitting the gunports, and temp pinning the quarterdeck, glad I did as the ply doesn't like going round the bow, after a good soak around she went, now all the gunports pieces have to be fitted very accurately,so fairing the bow and stern has to be done bit at a time so that the lengths of ply fit both the stern and bow, when first dry fitted, they were 3mm,short,after head scratching it dawned on me that I hadn't faired the stern or the bow yet,in doing so the ply would fit.Blushingbuild log 38hrs.

Keep at it Karl but no urgency, you'll be looking at around 2-3000 hrs for a stunning end result

Somewhere on the net was a guy who as a challenge built this model as fast as he could, I might be wrong but I seem to recall he got it down to about a 1000 hrs and a reasonable end result.

Looking really good, can't wait to see the final effect. Based upon Toms calls I have about 1500 hours to go on mine!!

this particular exercise has to be done with extreme care, the whole build from here on in depends on these gunports being lined up with each other.
the lowest ply strip no matter how much adjustment I made ended up short by about 5mm.at the bow,so a filler will need to be used.apart from that, they went on reasonably well.build log time so far 46hrs.

am now at the stage of starting the planking, the middle gundeck is planked, there is no lower gundeck to do,I have to make a comment at this stage, the planking is 6mm,x 1.5mm. which I feel is a bit flimsy, and it made me wonder why the jotika prototype had so much filler, now I can see why,the second layer of planking is 1mm.x 5mm.walnut.so that will stiffen things up a bit. pic5 show the relative sizes of the deag vic. and the jotika vic.build log time:-48hrs.

This is going to be very nice.

What makes a kit 'superior'

If this is the Rolls Royce of kits, what does it do better than the AL one?

Oh, and also, what do you do with all your completed builds? Surely there's no need for 6 giant Victory's in one house?

the answer is, it doesn't do anything that the a/l version does.
and if I had 10 victorys, why would that worry you????your not the one who has to find a home for them, the rolls royse bit,is,the quality of the parts,i.e.mike got the enhancements from caldercraft which were de-scaled from my one,so there;s your answer rob.

Hold up, I didn't mean anything funny about the all the models, I merely meant it as a lighthearted comment actually. It doesn't worry me at all. Bit annoyed about the harshness of the reply to be honest. I weren't having a pop.

Hi RobBigGrin . I know you probably did not mean to offend Karl, but even I winced when I read your post. Maybe if you had added some smilies or something to show it was a light hearted question and inquiry?BigGrinIts just an outside observation, so please dont think I am taking sides.BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

I think you're going a little over the top here Karl. I've already said I didn't mean anything by it. Christ, you're making me nervous about asking questions. I thought this was supposed to be a friendly forum.

Hi Karl

Hope all is well with you.

Really interested in this build as its the first time I have seen the stages to the construction of this kit.

Have you decided yet please if you will be painting this model or using stain and varnish?

Hope the rest of your build goes well.

Kind regards

Tony
Happy Modelling
