hi try a ratio of half paint half water if this is too thin then add a little more paint, it depends on the paint your using some are thicker than others out of the tin so to speak. hope this help's regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hmmm I have never used water to thin my paint and some acrylics react badly with it (MrColor turns to string in water), I always use the thinner for the paint i.e Tamiya or MrColor, it dries quicker and most is self leveling. And I thin mine 1 part paint 2 parts thinner, or on a non technical spec, the consistency of skimmed milk. I spray at 8 psi pressure at the gun, never had any problems at all. I spray at a distance of around 20 cm, light coats. Let each coat dry, and keep going until you get the finish you want. In between coats I check for dust specs and flat of with 1200 grade wet and dry if possible or a fine nail buffer for awkward spots. But its a case of experimenting. I have an old Sherman that I try new techniques on until I am happy so I don't ruin a proper build. Everyone on here has their own way of doing things, so my way is not everyone's way, its a case of play around with your paints and settings until you find a mix that works for you. Hope this helps in some way. Nem

this is an interesting discussion as i have a a double action airbrush and a compressor you can not change the pressure on. i don't use it for two reasons - i found it takes 6 times longer to clean it than use it and i could never seem to get the paint to not clog i guess i thinned it wrong but i just used to get spatter. i would love to master an air brush would be handy for big hulls etc but also for weathering - i wonder if it was just the kit was rubbish? the brush is a paascha? “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Both mine are double action but you NEED a regulator on your set up. To be honest both my brushes are £12 each, its not the cost, but how you set them up and keeping them clean. And I do admit, cleaning is a pain in the ass!! If its clogging it may be your paint is too thick or your pressure is too high causing the paint to dry in mid air or too low causing it to stick in the nozzle. I spray cars in my job, and setting up your pressure and gun is exactly the same principal. Nem

Thanks all for the depth of knowledge about airbrushing I think that with the amount of different paints and wether it enamels or acrylics it is only trial and error and to how to get the best finish with them. I have been practicing with mine on the inside box of the bus will some paint I will be using on the model just to give me the feel and the best combination of ratio's ( water- paint ), its not an exact science just what comes out best for the type of kit you would be using. The only thing I can say is never give up on trying to use one, the results might just amaze you. Thanks for look at my build be putting up some more pics later. Looks good. I've got a brand new one of these in my wardrobe. Never got round to it as I couldn't get on with airbrushing.

A great build so far Peter and an unusual subject - very nice indeed!!
I like the look of this model and I believe that Revell also do a 'London Taxicab' model to compliment the bus? If the bus is anything to go by then the cab would make a nice model as well I think.
Great stuff keep up the good work and thanks for posting such an interesting build, watching with interest!!

Just thought I would put a picture of all the paints I use in the building of the bus. The cost of the paints out way the cost of the bus but if a jobs worth doing push the boat out . Just hope the end result is worth it. Thanks for all the comments. Builds in progress: HMS Victory.HMS Surprise. Completed builds: Revell London Bus 1/24.
