Well the build got underway tonight by firstly by ensuring all parts were numbered before removing the ribs from their frets.. Can say the quality of the 5mm ply is very good however, not all the ribs were cut all the way through during the laser cutting process. The ribs were also heavily covered in black ash from the laser process and took a lot longer to remove than anticipated using a fine file.... Next stage will be to clean up the keel and prepare the build board...Cool Cool .. Tomorrow back to the SOTS...

Happy building all

Regards

Alan

Now that the work on the SOTS is complete until the release of the next issue on Wed, I can now get back to working on the Titanic... First as promised thought I would now show you the contents of boxes 3 and 4....

Box 3 contains nothing but photo etched ply and some wood strips, the etch is very thin and very detailed... Though it looks flimsy it does have a remarkable amount of flexibility.. still needs to be handled with care.. Cool Cool

With all the ribs now prepped it was time to turn my attention to the keel, the keel comes in two parts only... Cleaned off all the black ash and again parts were heavily coated.. Drew a line down the centre of the build board and used the build board to clamp the two pieces in place to ensure it was perfectly flat... braced the joint and clamped as instructed..Cool Cool . placed some tin foil under the joint as I didn't want the keel to adhere to the build board... This will be left like this until tomorrow where I will add the bracing piece to the other side and start cleaning up the two lower deck pieces.... Cool Cool .. Decided to photo the keel length next to the SOTS so to give an idea of the size of this baby....Cool Cool

Happy building all

Alan

Thanks for looking in Stevie and do agree with you, poor SOTS does look a little dwarfed but once she has her bowspirit on and fully sailed then maybe it won't look so small then....Laugh Laugh .. More tomorrow.....

Hi Trev, thanks for looking in and commenting.... This is a great kit, quality of parts is superb but sad to say the build instructions are pretty basic to say the least..... Think I am going to have to keep my wits about me with this one and think pretty far ahead as to how I am going to achieve the build I want.....Cool Cool .. Thanks again

Now feel the build has started in earnest. Have now got the build board finished with the angled brackets set in place... Keel set in place and before continuing ensured it sits exactly at 90 degrees to the board all along the entire length, keel also set along a centre line drawn along the build board.. Blink ... When happy dry fitted all the ribs in place plus the first piece of the lower deck, everything lining up nicely... Next session will be to clean off the second piece of the lower deck and dry fit before starting to glue and pin everything in place.... Cool Cool

Happy building all, back to the SOTS tomorrow all being well....

Regards

Alan
