Hi All I have been busy making up some anchor hawsers [well I think that's what there called but im sure nigel will give us all a lecture on there correct name shortly ]. On both the Yamato and Akagi models wire is bent around a piece of dowel to get the rings needed for them but I never liked this method as they just look wrong and made my own out of left over strake strip or you can use sheet to make them up. This is my method to make them , firstly laminate the strips together then when dry cut into the size needed to make the Hawsers, after marking the inner and outer rings they are ready to be cut out. After they are cut out they will require some carving/whitling to a rough shape then sanding down .The last pic shows the hawsers ready for sealing and painting but the stern one will need some soaking and shaping to fit properly. Hope this is of help regards Andy arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Nice work Andy, got to look better than a bit of wire. P.S. Just to save Nigel the trouble The Hawser is the Rope, Hawsehole, Hawsepipe or Hawse collar, often shortened to Hawse, is the correct term for the Hole. Although technically the Hawse is the area in which the Hawseholes are located.

Andy just out of interest what are the dimensions of your scratch built rings? “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Hi Jase As you probably know the Akagi was built in the 1930's from a converted battleship hull after an international naval treaty agreament and as such would have had the overlarge fittings of the period so i started at 18mm max width but after carving this is slightly smaller. In the raw before painting they look massive but after painting blend in quite well. Hope this helps Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
