Thankyou all for your encouraging comments I have to admit I have taken a slight break from the Vic for the past week due to decorating the house The next stage up is to fit the yards to the foremast and get them rigged. @Del, to answer your question of what's up next (you must have missed this one) - http://forum.model-space...sts&m=114777#114777
plus I need to complete my WW1 dio, plus my WW2 North Africa dio...etc, etc, there just isn't enough time Steve

Hi Steve. You've certainly done justice to this model. Build absolutely stunning. Will love to see when totally finished. I am considering second model and this model very appealing, that's of course if I could actually get any where near your work. Regards George Building HMS SOTS

Thanks very much for all the nice comments, appreciated @George1 - The Vic would make a fantastic second partwork if that's what your after. Id recommend it 100% even for someone looking for an introduction into wood modelling. I'm not building the SOTS but I think from what I have seen of other diaries that the Vic is the easier of the two. Steve

Hi Steve Thanks for your reply it's appreciated. The HMS Victory is certainly a stunning build and if you consider it easier than SOTS to build then there is hope for me. I will need to look at budget to try to fit in and I believe it's now released in Australia so very possible. Regards George Building HMS SOTS

I would certainly second that view Steve. materials are easier for planking and the build sequence more simple. I think people are pulled into the SOTS because of the Bling factor “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

I think people are pulled into the SOTS because of the Bling factor Hi Jase I was pulled in to SOTS mainly because it was the only release into Australia that Newbies like me knew of via TV Ads. While not all the Aussies are absolute Newbies most are and like me saw the Ads and went for it. I knew as soon as I started purchasing kits it was going to be a real challenge especially looking at the Mag Pics of the rigging and while a little late now I may have purchased the Victory instead if, as I said, I'd known about it. To be honest I like the look of the Victory overall regardless of it's ease or hardship. Regards George Building HMS SOTS

Thanks George, Jase & Tony Well issue 105 is supposed to be fitting the foremast lower yard, but I wanted a bit of a change so I jumped ahead slightly and painted figurehead parts. All parts were first primed with grey car primer, then parts were painted as per the mag instructions. The later pics here are after a layer of gloss varnish first, then a dark wash watered down then finally a satin varnish to seal. The wash is to make sure the parts are finished in the slightly weathered look that I have adopted for the whole build...can't change now I will post some more pics tomorrow of the parts fitted. Checkout the pics below of the boys in the disco Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):
