Cheers lads, all comments appreciated, as for the issue number John? this is a scratch build, so can't help you with that one, although all tips and know how will always be helpful to the members. OK on with the other S shaped decoration, this one took a little less time, and I did find it easier, dry tried the carvings on the stern and for once I'm happy with the result willz attached the following image(s):

On with the strongmen, those who follow my build will remember the strongman I carved some time ago, well after trying him on the stern with the S decoration he was too flat so decided to make another one with a slightly more 3d shape, the thickness of the piece has to be the same as the S decoration, the finished carving isn't so great under a macro lens but to the naked eye its fine. willz attached the following image(s):

Thanks all for the comments appreciated, started the second planking and was going great when I noticed I`d stuck one in with a much lighter colour, I thought and thought and thought about leaving it in till I could bear it no more so I soaked it with water and attacked with a chisel.. I`m looking at it now and still thinking maybe I should of left it in..?????? willz attached the following image(s):

Ouch ! Sure you will get it sorted Willz Perhaps run a blade along it so you get a cleaner break from the other planks. Best of luck Alan England expects that every man will do his duty.

I never realised that repairing was also a skill we have to learn.
I'm sure you made the right decision.

cheers all for the comments, and yes John repairing is all part of the process, and the time it takes to repair errors deeply burns into your brain not to make the same mistake again, anyhow all fixed now so onward and upward willz attached the following image(s):

Cheers all for the comments, appreciated, on with the build, completed the second planking of the top half on one side, not sure if I have sufficient walnut strips to complete the whole ship so going to do the top half of the other side first to make sure the colour of the stock is the same, also is a close up of the sheath, no pulley wheels at the mo will be added later,, A merry Christmas and new year to all, cheers William willz attached the following image(s):

Still plodding on with the second planking on the old vic. Seem to be accumulating quite a lot of offcuts in this build so collected some and put in a box for use later on. As we all know as we carry on with our builds it sometimes gets a bit tedious and we feel ourselves wanting a change, so looking at my box of offcuts came up with this idea, I`m going to build a bounty launch, although I haven't finished all my boats for the vic the ones I have made have a solid box wood keel for them and as this will be made out of bits and I dont know how it will look in terms of quality next to them, so because its going to be a small stand alone model I can experiment till my hearts content. Ok. the box lid has a pleasing monochrome photo of the model but we all know its what's inside that counts. On opening the box I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of all the different tropical woods there was boxwood walnut ply mahogany ebony and even some photo etch. I excitedly took out the drawing to study it. Will by planning the build for a start in a few days after checking the plans in the mean time her are the photos of box and contents. willz attached the following image(s):

Having looked at the my acquired drawing and comparing it with other sources it seems the bounty launch has many guises, I have found three different rib configurations and most of the models show a capping round the top with pegs sticking out for the oars. So that gives me a free hand, and as this build is a side project its no really important. The photo shows the bits I stuck together to form the keel willz attached the following image(s):

OK stuck in some ribs, dont put many in only enough to get the shape of the boat right, need more at the bow than the stern. When ribs have set I glue a top plank down both sides checking that profile with my drawing, no photo of this, the photo below shows how I go about planking, I file the plank to fit and then I only glue it to the rabbit in the keel and the first rib, I use Titebond glue, this has a faster grab time than ordinary pva, when its set I proceed to glue the rest of the plank down, this is a slow process so it is better that the build is a side project. willz attached the following image(s):
