Good morning from 'The Dockyard'.

In this weeks update I fitted handrails to the conning tower.

The handrails are made of 0.5mm diameter brass rod. Very thin, easily bent when you don't want it to and very fiddly. Blushing

I spent a bit of time trying to figure out how I would fix the handrails as I didn't want the brackets to look out of place scale wise and not appear 'to chunky'.

I decided to make the brackets using the same 0.5mm brass rod. I started by clamping a small length of the brass rod in a vice to act as a guide then took a similar length which would form the bracket and proceeded to bend it around the clamped piece. I then carefully crimped the neck of the bracket to bring it in tight around the clamped rod.

The prototype sample from another angle. I then had to make 18 of these brackets, which actually turned out to be about 24 in the end as 6 snapped as I crimped the ends! Blushing

The next step was to draw a guideline around the perimeter of the conning tower using a pencil clamped to an engineers square so that I could drill out the locating holes for the brackets.
