Hi Cris Thanks for looking in and your comments. The decking provided is printed card that is stuck onto the various deck segments. It looks ok from a distance but on closer inspection you can see what it is. If you look in the pictures on the previous page you can see the deck panels with pine looking brown finish. Andy That decking looks really good and I admire your patience putting that much planking down. Really good looking kit. Its one i have in mine for when my D51 finishes but with new year fast approaching, talk of another train model plus the inevitable tv ads for new builds holding off just at the moment 😻 Happy Modelling

Hi All After finishing the planking and sanding it back three coats of gloss varnish was added then sanded back before the last coat was put on. Using gloss varnish enables the decals to be placed without leaving the silvery edge you can get with matt finishes. Once the lifts were fixed and the decals were placed two coats of matt varnish were applied over the top to seal it all in. A word of warning on the decals there fragile so be careful when you apply them to the model. After the varnish dried the central deck furniture was added such as the arrestor wires/cages and the two forward wind breaks. Next the four search light covers were added along with two search lights midships and lastly the bridge was fixed to the deck. Still lots to add and more soon. Nice work on the deck Andy and well done on getting those decals to sit down properly on a wooden deck. They do seem to be a little transparent in places though, but I think that maybe helps with creating a scale appearance, as being too opaque and bright may have looked a bit too bold and contrasting against the mainly grey superstructure?
Nice build - well done!

That's a beautiful finish you've achieved with the deck! I must admit I was a bit sceptical that such a good finish good,be achieved with decals over wood but you've certainly put my scepticism in its place!

Hi Dave and Greame Thanks for looking in and your comments @ Dave its no big secret with the wood deck 4 coats of gloss varnish will seal the wood and allow the decals to go on without any problems all thats needed after is a couple of coats of matt varnish to get it back to the scale type look. Hi Andy do we get all the arrestor wire`s etc in the build or are they your enhancements ? also are you putting a rising sun on the deck? cheer`s phil COMING SOON =1/72 Italeri diorama`s Battle for the Reichstag and Stalingrad battle at the tractor factory 1/16 Trumpeter King Tiger with loads of extras ON THE GO= refurbishment of 1/25 Tamiya tiger 1 , amt Star trek kits and space 1999 models

Hi Phil All the deck furniture is provided in the kit as shown so far along with the side nets and supports I have yet to fit. The meat ball/ring sun symbol as the yanks called it was quickly removed when the Japanes pilots said why dont you just put an X in its centre saying bomb here and also there were reports from USA pilots saying it was a perfect aiming point to dive bomb at hence its rapid removal.
