Thankyou for all the info Jase, good of you to give such a detailed reply. I like the idea of cleaning and priming as I need it too. As for the build start....well I'm on the verge of starting a separate diary any day now, all other plastic kits are now on hold, Lusty is coming - watch this space as they say Steve

Thanks for your support Del, Def be starting this week and will be glad to have you along. Just one more question I promise, I test sprayed some humbrol paint yesterday - horrible experience. I have no problems with Tamiya at all. I am test spraying the main hull colour to get a pre-mix made up ready but it just wont spray, the paint is very thick for a start and when mixed with humbrol thinners at 50/50 it is still too thick and clogs the airbrush (tried water mix too). Then adding more thinners eventually sprays but it's like water So, anyone else used humbrol acrylics? If not anyone know it there is an exact replacement for humbrol 127 ghost grey in Tamiya range? I don't rate the Humbrol acrylic range. Tamiya XF19 sky grey is their equivalent.

Hi Steve, Only sprayed Humbrol with an average result and only once. The official Sots set, with what looks to me as a novice sprayer a pretty good result. Tamiya on the other hand, I`ve done quite a bit as a base coat with the flat range and it`s . I concur with Mr T, (even as a novice sprayer), Tamiya has given me my best results. Hope this helps. Thanks Guys, I will try the Tamiya then. @Del - A lot of people on various forums have been moaning about the humbrol paint too. Like the idea of the pre-mixed paints too Jase, might look into these also, saves messing about. OK, some ideas please before start - take a look at the pic below and let me know the best way of achieving this, possibly even with a light on the harrier too stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Two thoughts from me Silver coloured wire or clear plastic sprue join the tail to the deck “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Thanks Jase, I think the clear sprue may be good, could be heat stretched very thin, not sure how bendy it would be though as I want it a bit longer than the above pic suggests - more like the one below with a bit of distance between the deck and the plane. Maybe a light on the plane is a bit ambitious then? stevie_o attached the following image(s):

not sure if this is helpful? you could easily mount a helicopter hovering above deck. and some look hollow so you might be able to get a light up to simulate after burn? http://www.homecrafts.co...clear-acrylic-rods-m821i“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Those hollow 3mm rods look useful the possibilities are endless, harriers taking off, hovering etc etc, so much to think about! Steve

Nice ideas coming along Del!! The rod idea seems the best I think and you could run a very thin optic up to the plane. One thing I've noticed is when the harriers take off there's quite a bit of spray created if the deck is even a tiny bit damp, you could mask the rod to some extent with some very fine cotton wool or similar between the rear of the harrier and the top of the ski jump? (or dump a mug full of scenic water over the deck and then you can get away with anything!! ) Great plans in the making here! Anyone reckon this would look cool too! Not so easy to do though I'm sure I once saw a diorama of Pearl Harbour though with all the ships and some aircraft flying over, can't find it again to see how it was done! Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):
