Thanks for the nice comments BigGrin

I am on nights now for 3 nights then a 1 week off rest days, not a bad job when you work 3 weeks then get a week of rostered rest days BigGrin I am hoping in this time to get the hull finally sprayed and sealed and perhaps the decals on, depending on how much SWMBO starts planning for me Blink

Is anyone getting bored of photoetch pictures yet BigGrin

Finished off the smoke stack.

Started with these to make the cover

Then these had to be added

To make this, hold and fold being useful just holding :D

And done, I had to trim the plastic grate off of the kit surround to stick the PE on instead, I left this till the end until I was sure I could assemble the PE cover

Thats the smoke stack pretty much wrapped up as far as PE goes, just the walk way around the bottom to assemble with some railings and ladders and its all done Woot

Thanks for all the comments BigGrin

I must admit the other day I had a what the hell have I let myself in for moment, with all the railings and ladders still to do :O

After having a little break to make a start on my Chibi Maru Akagi I got right back on it and put some more railings on. SWMBO was very impressed with all the brass and was trying to convince me to leave it unpainted as it would be a shame to hide all the brass :D

A bit of primer splashed on some parts too, this where I noticed some climps of glue from sticking the ladder on and some areas that arent quite smooth. Overall I am too worried about some of the imperfections as I dont think they will be very visible once it all comes together after all I am going to be entering into competitions. In fact seeing as its my first build in 18 years I am over the moon at the progress I am making BigGrin

Been at the PE again, more railings, ladders added as well as some sandbags too BigGrin

Using macro zoom as usual, this camera mode has its benefits as I have just spotted some rails that need straightening.

It really is quite satisfying seeing it all come together Woot

BigGrin Hi Dave

The etch railings certainly make all the difference and can be a pain to fit but worth the effort. Looking at pictures from Tamiya Im glad to see a kit with the central gun stop bars included, I had to scratch build them on my DeAg Yamato

Hi Dave

What I really rate is anyone that can get microscopic photo etch to stick with "fairy dust" BigGrin a real credit to you and following your build (as time and life allows) with great interest.

Happy modelling

Thanks for the nice comments and watching my build its really appreciated, it also helps to keep you going when you start thinking you have bitten off more than you chew BigGrin

I had a couple of different PE sets as I didnt know what one I would end up using, it has worked out as a godsend as it has allowed me to practive and ruin a lot of PE and still have everything I need for the build BigGrin

With the rails I have my technique down now whereby I use a pin to rub some superglue (I am now using Loctite super flex) on to a couple of sections of the rail after I have shaped it, which is Im just using my Xacto blade handle on my cutting mat, I then attach that and allow to dry for a few minutes. Then I just use my tweezers to hold the next small section in place (when I say section that is from one up right stancheon to the next) and dip the pin in the glue and rub it back forth on top of the bottom rail of that section ( the bottom rail being the one in contact with the plastic). This seems to be working great.

I am finding it is all about being patient with it and not forcing it to do what you want

After some slow but steady progress I finally finished all te PE on the island super structure.

Here it is all primed and done, along with some other little bits that have been primed. Some Joints need a little attention, not quite as bad with the naked eye as with macro zoom.

I have also switched from the Vallejo Primer I was using to Tamiyas Fine surface primer straight from the rattle can.

Parts for smoke stack

Parts for the tower structure

Parts for Island Super structure

Bent railings on rear part now straightened

Main Island super structure finished, I will spray the whole thing Kure Grey and then tackle the sand bags and nav lights with a brush. If you look really closely there are some cobwebs showing up, these have all been removed now.

This ladder was a bit of a challenge, you have to bend the railings and then each individual step had to be bent the angle they are at now otherwise it would have effectively been a slide.

Thanks for the nice comments Derek

I think perhas bitten off more than I can chew was the wrong phrase.

Every now again I just think why did I decide to use so much PE, of course never having used it before it seemed like a good idea to start with, but then you just hit those moments when it just seems like its never ending Blink

Now though I actually really enjoy doing ladders and railings, its so satisfying seing the end result despite the amount of time it takes. I am still get those moments where I want to forget the PE but then I just move onto something else and come back to it another time.

I am so happy I have persevered with it though as it really is making a massive difference Woot

Thank you very much Cool

I still need to get around to painting the upper hull in its final colour and attach the deck (the primed hull is in its box at the moment).

I am raelly thrilled with the progress I am making so far albeit 5 months to reach this point. Still there is no rush BigGrin
