Hi all here is an update, and a querey I have used humbrol matt varnish for the first time, But I have an unusual effect the varnish has white patches (which in this instance is great I was going to add something like this anyway, and think it works ok) but what if I didn't want it, whats gone wrong ( I stirred it thourgherly) Ken's the name modeling's the game.

KP Well impressed with what you are putting together here - very impressive indeed. You do seem to have son problems with your paints. Hope you do not mind me asking but your not like me are you and store away paints for years? Storage can affect paints over time and with matt matts there is a chemical case they use for the on at effect and if the carrier liquid is old you will get this sort of effect. Tamiya used to make (maybe still do) a matting agent to add to the gloss paints they supplied.muse this incorrectly - ie too much and you would get exactly this effect. One of the other issues is that adding a varnish coat to paint that gas not fully cured can produce sone odd results. The only other thing I can think is that if it's new paints you are using maybe your shop is selling old stock? Happy Modelling

Hi Tony this tin of paint is less than a week old to me I actually bought it forvthis project so unless the supplier had it a long time I doubt it's that and the paint I am painting over is at least a fortnight old so should be dry. I don't mind the effdct, in fact I like it but whatif I just want matt with none of the white effect. Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Hi KP It's looking great despite the paint problems! Is it Humbrol Acrylic matt or spirit based? And what was the weather like when you painted it? (Seriously! ) I've heard of the acrylic based varnishes giving white streaking if the air has a high humidity level. The acrylic matt varnish is a translucent white to begin with and high humidity can somehow lock that white into the finish, almost like the top surface dries but the underside of the varnish stays damp. Like you said, it looks good on the stuka but not so helpful if you didn't want it in the first place! Great diary! doing some work on the base today as you can see not a lot of room in my man cave for it drilled the holes for all the leds and put and wired the leds into the board not wired the explosion in the stern of warspite cant do that till Warspite hull is permanently atattched same for the FW 190 the 2 blue leds are for the water plumes for the near misses. Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Really liking this build KP, It's an ambitious project but you really are making a fab job of it Hope you don't mind me agreeing with you about the blue leds, to be honest I don't think you need leds in the water plumes really as they are not technically explosions so would be unlit. No need to try to cover them up, you could just not power them up then you wont notice them. Steve

This is cool. I had not appreciated the scale of the Dio until these base shots. Jase “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Not bored at all KP, now I've had that 'light-bulb moment' and understand what it is you are doing, I can see what an amazing project you've set yourself. It's really going to look superb when finished. I love how you've used aircraft of differing scales to achieve the depth of field to the diorama and it works really well - it feels as though we're up there with them (although I wouldn't want to be on receiving end of all that AA fire). Had you thought of doing something about the propellers of the two nearest aircraft to give them an impression of movement? Very well one, there aught to be a special medal for projects like this one. Happy building David
