Hi Ian i have been thinking (worrying)about which paint scheme to go for

I cannot see myself going for the pattern on the superstructure
Crying Me thinks that will be way out of my comfort zone and capabilities

Possibly 21st May 1941 with the pattern on the hull only
LOL or a few days before they got the paint for that jobFlapper

I am sure there was a period where she had no pattern on the hull or superstructure

Hi Budgie.
I opted for the pattern up to the deck level. I love the false bow and stern waves on the side to give the image of a smaller ship. look forward to seeing more of your build, brings back a lot of memorys off when i was making her. IanCool Cool BigGrin

Have added the "bilge keel" i am more used to calling this part the stabiliser

I used "serious glue" for this part.....once dried i will try and pull it off

They do fall off in real lifeFlapper

Looks great Stuart. It's coming along nicely.Which serious glue then BigGrin I used superglue to stick mine on the only problem with this is you only get one go at positioning it.

BigGrin Hi Chris thanks for popping in

This is the same glue i have used to attach the resin part to wood and it seems solid enough

It is thick and gives you a few minutes to play about with positioning the part

The instructions does say to use epoxy but i would rather use a glue that requires no mixing to save mixing too much or worse not enough for the job in hand

I did think about drilling holes in the "stabiliser" and hull and using brass rod as dowels

1st time i have used this glue on wood to wood but seems solid enough at the moment

Wiil give it a "tap" once fully hardenedLOL

BigGrin Mornin' Folks

Spent the past week adding the rest of the 2nd planking

I did think about using the thinner planks supplied once past the stabilizer area and hope it blends in after sanding but decided to use same thickness as the 1st planking..... hence the dark wood (not enough of light planks to finish)

This will give me a bit off leaway when sanding as i am quite heavy handed and would probably rub thru the thinner planksLOL

Going to rough sand the hull... weather permitting before adding the resin parts and the ply with porthole detail at bow and stern

I have not double planked the top 2 rows of the hull yet will use thin strips for that

Thanks for lookin'

Loving this build. The shape of the Bismark is remarkable. Your making a great job of the planking and shaping. After sanding down it will certainly please you.

On my Hood for filler to smooth it and blend it all I used Stopper. Which is car filler in a tube used for getting rid of the fine scratches left behind when wet and drying.(Google auto repair stopper filler) Dries pretty quick and is rock solid. Use wet and dry to smooth it.
Hope you don't mind the tip.

Hi Chris thanks for the tip

As for "minding" of course not......this is your tried and tested method with great results

I will probably use the wood filler i have already purchased which should cover the 1st going over off the hull just too use it up before purchasing the filler you have reccommended

ps thanks for the post with the picture off the product

Cool covered the hull in filler and been rubbin' away all day OUTSIDE LOL

Crying Sloooooowly getting thereCrying

The pics show some areas where light is shining thru on the 2 upper rows of planks and the squares at the bilge area

But i have still too double plank the upper two rows with a thin veneer and to finish off gauzing the inside off the hull (got bored doing that earlier)
