Have now added the skins to the timber frame of the boiler

Used Evo stik express on one part but found this too thick and the part almost ended up becoming a part of me.

Reverted to the good old super glue gel with more success

Used some pins to hold the skin in place whist the glue went off. They will not show on the final model so will leave them in situ

Next step is to glue the parts of the boiler together and fill in where necessary, sand and then paint

Will use some Perfect Plastic Putty as recommended by my local model store. according the the blurb on the box it "Fills fine gaps, Creates invisible seams"
We shall see

The Bridge I have built to display this model is some 900 mm long, the train will be 503mm approx so this leaves me some 400mm to play with.

Am thinking of adding a freight wagon (310mm) to complete the display

Did look at the Coche Costa Coach but it would be to long.

Will need to confirm that is is suitable for the G gauge track dimensions before I decide

Hey Gil,
I found this video on youtube of the Jupiter replica. The front door is open and you can see the interior cab color is a dark green.

I think I will try to match that for my Jupiter

Hi Carl

Thanks for that link will watch it tonight. I have already decided to go for a darker green than that shown in the build instruction which is more of a lime
Yuk

Have you started on the front of the boiler yet. The hinge on the right of the "door" in my parts was too short so I removed the ends and added a length of brass rod. Once painted you will not notice my "upgrade"

Have a nice day

I can't see any of the last lot of pics on my playbook, is it me or are you using another method to post pics? Enjoying watching the two different building methods.

I have had the same problem when viewing other builds

Instead of a picture all I see is a small box where the photo should be.

I am using Google Chrome so that may be the problem

If you "right click" on the small icon and select reload from the drop-down menu the pictures should appear.
You can also try CTRL and R which has the same effect

have now painted the Boiler using the satin finish and not the flat black recommended as i prefer the look

A steady hand was needed to paint the number and surround

Have started work on the interior of the cab LOTS of small parts to fit and paint

Should be fun !!!!!!

Still plenty of work on the boiler which will continue when the paint is dry

Thanks for the comments everyone

Blushing Blushing Blushing Blushing

Carl I still have a bit to go to catch you up but "its not a race but a journey"

Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh

Have built the framework for the tender but have yet to cover it

Spending time on the controls for the cab interior.

Still not 100% on what colours (colors) to use whether to go for the suggested colours (colors) or not
Have seen a picture on the web of an interior for the cab which shows the wood varnished and not painted, but this would mean I would have to line the interior with timber strips to match the exterior.

Hmm what to do with the interior?

The video by O`Connor said the cab was left unfinished because it was so beautifully made, but then in the video I found from promenatory point the same train? has a green painted interior.

I did find out that originally at the Golden spike re-enactment the Jupiter train was actually a gas powered replica.THis was replaced by the one that O Connor built in the late 70s so I am not sure which train I am looking at on youtube.

I think I am going to paint rather than use wood.

been busy painting the interior cab components

Items required :-

Paint - Gold-Silver-Red-Black
Brushes - various sizes
Patience - Large quantities
Ear plugs for the wife

Still when all said and done am happy with the results so far, all I have to do now is fit them to the cab which is the next job once the cab has been painted

The next step for the boiler construction is to add the brass bands that go around the boiler

Provided are a number of brass strips which need to be bent to fit around the cylinder of the boiler

My first attempt using long round nose pliers was poor resulting in too many kinks in the brass.

Thinking cap on ????, My son is a plumber and had numerous copper fittings which he uses in the course of his work.

A quick look at what is in the shed I found a fitting used to reduce 22mm pipe to 15mm. Putting this on the end on my finger (bit like a thimble) I worked the brass strip around the large end first then the smaller end resulting in a length of brass the required shape to fit the boiler and no kinks

Jobs a goodun

love the color on the boiler Gil.I replaced those brass pieces because they were really tough to bend. The wheelguards will also be good to use your bending pipe on GIl.The ones for the main wheels are tough to bend.It took me ages to get them even vaguely round.

Moved on to the interior of the Cab. Lots of small parts and some delicate painting required.

Parts not glued in place yet as am bending brass rods to make the pipework. Decided not to use the supplied copper wire as it was too much of a faff to try to straighten it out. So this is by way of a dry fit

Also decided to add a wooden top to the seats to match the flooring (Used some planking left over from my Victory Build)

My next job is the funnel covering and the Tender covering. Have delayed this part of the build as it will require me acquiring new skills in so far as the addition of false rivet lines for which I have purchased a ponce wheel. not used one before so this should be interesting/challenging
