I just saw an ad for the re-release of the Willys Jeep by Dragon.
No mention of an engine unfortunately

Will have to keep my fingers crossed that Dragon release the engine, no reply from the guy from Shapeways, so I guess thats a no go either. On with the build! I have started work on the tub and the first thing is the sink holes in the bulkhead need dealing with. No problem you say, but in 1:6 scale they are like moon craters!! Next up was the dash board and bonnet, hood. Big plastic hinges and a metal rod so that it opens and there are some decals for the gauges when the dash has been painted. Then on to the tub. Battery and fuel tank were fitted and then we hit a problem. Your meant to fit the bulk head then the dash and slam panel. They were not a good fit so I offered up a side panel to find the tub is warped length way and side to side. So I will be deviating from the plans. Side panels will be fitted first then the bulk head and then the dash and slam panel. I have done a dry run with clamps and it should all pull straight. Nemesis attached the following image(s):

P38 Heaven with those craters, with the correct jigging the body will straighten out no probs, nice work Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Looking great Nem, pity about the warping but am sure you'll resolve the problem.....

Well I managed it! Lots of clamps, copious amounts of glue, hair dryer, alot of patience and some choice vocabulary, the tub is square and everything fits nicely!Nemesis attached the following image(s):

How to overcome problems is all part of modelling, knew you'd solve the warping issue.... Looking great....

Alan It was indeed a challenge, but as you say all part of modeling. Gives a good feeling when it all comes good.

This looks like a very nice sizeable kit that looks like it will look really cool when finished, I'm sure your skills will do it justice.
I must admit, like others, I'm a bit miffed as to why there is no engine with this, if Trumpeter can put all the extra interior detail into their large scale kits then surely it would have made sense for Dragon to do the same.

Especially when Dragon have already produced the engine kit, so it's not as though it does not exist, just seems ludicrous!

Nice work so far Daran, should build into a stunning model and I agree with the sentiments of others with regards to the lack of an engine. You would have thought that Dragon might have cottoned onto the idea of including an engine, even if they were to refrain from including it in the main kit and instead marketing it as a 'supplementary' kit as an optional enhancement their Jeep?

Hello Kev. Yes very surprised that the engine kit was not still produced along with the kit or even included, especially as you get parts for the engine bay and you can open the bonnet (hood)! Its like having a tank with no tracks, really obvious they are missing!! Hopefully I can get the Shapeways one but I will have to see.

Makes you wonder what they did with the molds for the engine kit.Maybe they threw them out. What a shame.
Its not that easy an engine to scratchbuild

Will have to be Shapeways or nothing I think. I could scratch build one, but its months of work and I don't have the time before the Anniversary. Still it is a great kit and I am enjoying it.

After getting the tub square and the bulk head, I have started adding tool holders, handles and other external parts. The drivers pedals are in also. The seats and frames will be added later in the build as they need painting separately. I did a dry run with the chassis. It is going to be quite big!Nemesis attached the following image(s):

Beautifully neat and tidy work as always Daran and this model looks a very impressive size I must say. Does it include the horizontal rifle holder and M1 Garand rifle that was often seen above the dashboard on these?

Hi Kev, no rifle on this kit, Dragon could have done so much more with it in this scale. The basic build is done now, all the lights and tools will be added later, also the straps for the tool holders. The seats are dry assembled and fit, they will be painted separately. The jerry can still needs a little work. Now its time for some primer and pre-shading. The body will be done in grey with black and dark brown shades as will the wheels, chassis will have black shading.Nemesis attached the following image(s):
