Hi all Thanks for looking in. I've been experimenting with the deck planks and how to highlight the joins and without definitive answers I decided to experiment. I painted the deck tan, mixed matt black and water 50/50, allowed it to dry and with an old well used piece of dry emery rubbed the deck gently to achieve what you can see in the photo. I will be using acrylic thinners when I paint the decks properly instead of water. I am open to constructive criticism-in fact I would welcome it or your comments. I feel quite happy with it. The photo shows a trial area. Regards to all Alan ALW attached the following image(s):

Really nice job so far Alan I like the look you've achieved with the deck, another option could be to use an oil or enamel wash perhaps

Hi Dave
Thanks.
I've never done this with a wooden deck before. Did loads of experimenting last night this seemed the best and cleanest. I only use acrylic now-not much cleaning involved!!
Have a great weekend.
Cheers.

Looks good to me, all I will say on the weathering front is the Hood was the pride of the Royal Navy and as such she was never allowed to get too grubby. I seam to recall that before her last voyage she had not long had a refit and paint job but may be wrong on that. Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Andy your quite correct, infact the refit was not fully compleate and its not clea what was and what was not compleated before sinking. All Royal Navy ships have a daily routeen if maintance but due to limitations of access while on the open seas you tend to find the siperstructure in good irder and the hull showing signs if weather. I would suggest minor rust streaking around the anchors and some biw paint chipping primeraly Jase “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Alan I think your deck looks spot on to be honest. I would think that has taken you some time but the result is well worth the effort. Happy Modelling
