BigGrin Hi All

Some more progress.

The ply side panels and the top ply panel [ not fixed in place yet ] were shaped then undercoated and the first coat of brown added. Using the AL Wood Mask tool I proceeded to paint the grain onto the parts.

I found the best way to use the mask is to fix it onto the part using masking Tape and then spray your darker colour as per the instructions. The mask is only so big and will need to be repositioned on the part to prevent the spray line the trick is to leave a wavy line before you reach the edge of the mask, reposition and respray and hey presto no spray lines.

Once dry the side panels were fixed to the fuselage , the top section will be fitted later on in the build.

The next part of the build starts with the lower wing. I used a wood stain on the ribs and rib tapes and left the box spar natural. the construction is straight forward and the trailing edge is made from etch. Still some things to add like the etch leading edge and more tapes.

More soon

Andy,

You really do incredible work. You are sorely tempting me in the build but over here we don't have the DeAg support as AL is easily bought. Are the kits EXACTLY the same?

Any way, can't wait to see the engine work.Drool

Andy’s DR.1 kit is the AL kit, identical in every way including the box.

BigGrin Hi All

The brass etch leading edges were made up for the lower wing glued in place and then the wing tapes were added. After that the outer wing struts were added at either end of the wing along with the etch spar brackets for each one. The lower wing was then attached to the fuselage.

The mid-wing was made up in the same way as the lower wing but with a different trailing edge to go around the cockpit. This done the leading edges and tapes were added then the assembly was added to the upper fuselage. Some adjustment may be needed here to make sure the mid-wing sit's against the fuselage upper bars.

The last central rigging wire was attached to the front fuselage bar and then the front upper fuselage cover was added making sure the rigging wires exit in the correct places. the central upper wing struts came next then the two side cockpit shrouds were then added and last of all the ply rear fuselage cover.

Next we start the assembly of the twin machine gunsDrool Drool Drool Drool
