hi tony,I will be painting a lot of the model, but will also be using stains and varnish,as the copper plates are supplied,I'll be tiling as well.the staining will be mostly the deck fittings instead of painting them black.the bow end and stern def.paint, and try to get some internal details.e.g. cpt. cabin etc.I'm fine btw,and hope you are keeping well.

Hi Karl,
I'm am asking this question with great respect to a master modeller, where do you put/keep all your models?
It's my Wife's first line of defense, 'where are you going to put it when it's finished', I don't think She's realized quite how big the Trumpeter Bismarck is going to be.

hi andy,no problem at all,for me anyway, first I must explain,I am lucky I have 1. an understanding wife who has hobbies of her own.
2.a spare room/workshop to myself.
3.a very large loft space.
4.I am retired.
my main love is building models,so once I have finished them they are either sold,or stored in the loft, the other victory's,two were made from card, one was made from matchsticks, one del prado which was sold to a shop in Nelson walk, greenwich, and two sold on e-bay for a pittance,a mantua and a panart victory.at present the deag finished (almost) is beside me as I type, and next to it is sots, with a deag vic(just started)above that.on the other shelf ongoing san philip, below that is the vic cross section, top shelf is the ongoing titanic which is being restored.and the last shelf in a case is the maclaren f1.on top of the wardrobe is the amerigo vespucci, which is in 7 kits, and I'M up to kit five, the last two kits are expensive so they can wait.the other ship were all given away or sold to family and friends.in my locality I don't have a name,Im known as the bloke who makes boats.even the postie knows which parcels to be careful with.I don't consider myself a master builder or expert even,I just do the best I can,and have learn't so much in the 3 years on this forum, and more then willing to pass on that knowledge to who ever want it, k.

It is the same question my wife asks. I have some dedicated display areas in the house when I need to make space I give an old model away to family or friends. As for my Bismarck it is narrow enough to mount on the wall in the dining room. Cool

Hi Karl,
I had always wanted to build a model sailing ship, so when DeAg advertised their Victory in 'kit form' on the TV, I just had to have a go. With no experience I set to work, buying the tools needed as I went along, and looking in to this forum regularly to get advice and help.
I'm not much younger than yourself Karl, but I have really been 'bitten by the bug' so to speak, and would love to go on to other builds but my 'other half' says we do not have enough room to display any more ships (and I still have the Victory cross-section to work on when the ship herself if finished). I have to agree with my partner about the space problem, but I don't think I could be as generous and open-hearted as you in letting them go to another home when they're finished.
The satisfaction I am getting from this one build more than makes up for the fact that I probably won't be able to work on any more in the future. So, I content myself with being able to follow your superb builds on this forum. And being able to draw on your long years of experience has helped me considerably with my build. So I will be following your latest Victory build with great admiration, and long may you continue to with this fascinating hobby.
Happy building
David

Not all the models DeAg do are as large as victory you may be able to find some small corners if you want to carry on with little ships after victory Laugh

very true jas, daffy am so glad your enjoying your build(s)there are many models that would keep your interest up,I sometimes build a small model as a break from the big 'un's.and I get as much a kick as the doing the big ones.the titanic life boat springs to mind,it's only 10" long but it builds like her big sister, and it's very detailed.don't forget you have a whole team of members to help and advise,so lets not hear you giving up on us. k.

this is how I finished the planking on this side, just like the real thing.first I must explain what is going on.the joints at each end must always be over a rib for strength,it is very easy to do,why models don't incorporate these joints I do not know, but here it is.

the quarter galleries were next, fiddly more then hard to do,a lot of damping down and bending on them,no plastic clear sheet for windows(missing)so improvised with a tool cover, done the job.3/4 of the second skin applied,as recommended I used medium superglue,2.1/2 bottles of 50 grams used.next is the upper deck beams, upper deck, cannon gunport ply strips on the inside to do,then the very tedious job of lining the gun ports. total hours to date 132 hours.

Looking superp. Keep up the good work. Just a quick question Karl the white pins you used to fix the gun ports with where this supplied with the kit or are these something you use, look very useful.
Look forward to seeing more of your build.

hi Ian,the clamps I got from here,
http://www.miskinmodels.co.uk/page10.html
you need to smooth the twist handles with a file, and slightly open up the holes, and then trim the screw base so they go further in,a word of warning, always drill or the ribs will split, and the fingers get very sore with constant use.
