Hello all,
Edging strips have been made and fitted to the hull, 1st,2nd, and 3rd decks. An electric plank bender, while not absolutely essential, made the job much easier. Holes made in the decks for support pillars, pillars made and test fitted. Edging strips painted, and lower part of main staircase made and stained.
A start has been made on the engine room. The deck is being planked with left over 2 x 5mm strip wood left over from HMS Victory. Hopefully more next week.

Kind Regards,
Tony.

Hello All,
Thank you all for the compliments.

I was pottering round with some pieces of dowel, when I thought I may be able to make some engines out of this. You can see the result, the valve rods are made from paper clips and the piston rod is aluminium tube, bought in for the job. I have made some louvres for the first deck cabin shutters, I am not totally happy with them, and may redo them.
I have made a start on the stern wheel, the first part made was a bending jig, as I am laminating 1 x 4mm strip wood for the circular parts. I think it will be a slow job, as the wood takes forever to dry after bending and glueing. More next week all being well.

Regards,
Tony.

Hello all,
Rather less progress than I hoped, I have run out of 1x4mm wood for the stern wheel and am awaiting the arrival of more. The boiler room has been planked and stained, and a boiler made. It started life as a shampoo bottle, I planked part of it and made ends out of 2mm sheet, the tube access doors are 1mm sheet. I still have to make a main stop valve and a flue uptake. Water gauge glasses are something else I need to make. I have made two sets of bitts which are not part of the plans, I will not be fixing them in place until I have the bow gangways made and fitted. I don't know if anything will be posted next week, but anyway a happy Christmas to all.

Kind regards,

Tony.

Hello all,
Not very much has been done, as I have been trying to complete my Victory cross section. Issues 149, and 150 arrived on the 21st, but I am still waiting for a missing elm tree pump section from issue 146. I have worked around that as much as possible.
A bought in capstan has been assembled and stained, a start has been made on the second boiler, and cabin door shutters. The second paddle wheel is under construction.
Hopefully more next week.

Kind regards,

Tony.

Hello all,
The second boiler has been completed and gauge glasses made for them both. They are oversize but it would be practically impossible to make them to scale, with the tools I have. The third paddle wheel is complete and the fourth under way. I have shown two of them temporarily mounted to the shaft. The final two doors for the port side 1st deck cabins have been made, they need staining and glazing, more shutters are being made.
I have a spare electric plank bender if anyone is interested. Why I have one is a long story I don't intend to get into here. It is used (it did the plank bending for HMS Victory) there is discolouration, but it is in full working order. Contact me by PM if you are interested.
More next week all being well.

Kind regards,

Tony.

Hello all,
A bit later than usual, but here we go.Doorknobs have been made and fitted to main deck and port side 1st deck doors. The stern wheel has been completed and fitted, the bearing cap is held with 1/8" cut off screws and nuts. Crossheads and slides have been made, aluminium sheet is used to simulate the polished slide. The connecting rods should be in line with the piston rods, but space precluded this. A start has been made on the steam piping. I have decided that when the steam piping is complete, a control stand made, and a simulation of the valve gear made. No further details will be added to the engine and boiler rooms, or I could spend months doing nothing else. I hope people will not be too disappointed. Hopefully more next week.
Kind regards,
Tony.

Hello all,
Progress has slowed due the the long awaited arrival of issue 146 Victory cross section. The third deck planking has been completed, stained and varnished. The superstructure has been assembled, the top planked stained and varnished, and the sides planked and painted. The mast/flagstaff has been made and varnished, a headlight needs making to go about half way up it, and a block fitting for the flag.
More next week all being well.

Kind regards,
Tony.

really taking shape now Tony. I like the contrast between the woods and the white superstructure.

Thank you jase, I have used Ronseal wood stains, natural oak for the decks and pilot house, mahogany for the doors and windows, dark oak for the pilot house trim, stairway sides and horse boxes. The mast/flagstaff is walnut dowel.
Regards,
Tony.
