Thank you everybody for looking in and the kind words.
Moved things alone again this evening. Some bits that had been cleaned up have been primed the sump, bonnet rear section and the dashboard.
I then tackled one of the fenders. from dry fitting I established that the grill plate fixed in place would still leave some warping ar the rear of the running board, so I inserted a piece of plastic card to brace it. then everything was clamped into shape while the glue set. There was a fair amount of sink on the running board due to the location strips underneath. the part was given a good tidy up and then give a quick prime to highlight any remaining issues. the top surfaces are ok just a bit of fill and clean up around the joints.
Then I turned to the wooden body. This is comprised of four parts all of which were a real pig to fit. the parts were not even the right shape the floor pan was thicker one side than on the other i ended up holding everything in place with both hands as the glue set and the wife took the kids out so they did not hear the 'model language' that accompanied building this sub section. jase attached the following image(s): “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Pushing on with Chitty...
The second runnigboard has been assembled
The wings have been assembled ready for cleanup.
I am planning a modification to the door handles. The kit parts are almost unrecognisable lumps of plastic, so i plan to remove the handle section and replace with brass wire. The wire is simply wound around a square file then cut off.
The wooden body work is now painted. First coat was Humbrol 93 Desert Yellow followed by two coats of 50% Humbrol 110 Natural Wood 50% Humbrol 113 Rust. All were thinned to 2 parts paint 1 part thinner. Once well dry the light wood was picked out again in Humbrol 93. There are two internal side panels that fit in the front cabin, fit being the wrong word as they did not remotely fit. It took nearly 2 hours of dry fitting with the front seat to get the the parts to sit correctly! Seats have now been installed and so has the rear section of carpet. not looking to bad.jase attached the following image(s): “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Painting of the wooden body is now complete. This was a long task but I think the results speak for themselves. The light wood pinstripe was picked out first using Tamiya XF-60 Dark Yellow. These were hand painted, cleaning of any excess on the planks as I went. Next the planks were individually painted using Daler-Rowney Rich Transparent Red Oxide. Each plank had three coats of this thinned down paint to build up the depth of colour. Finally the whole body was given a heavily thinned Red Oxide wash to blend everything together and reduce the contrast between the planks and the pinstripe. After 48 hours everything was given two coats of varnish.
The front carpet was then fitted and the pedals which have been painted in Tamiya X-11 Chrome Silver. The dashboard fitted snuggly and looks the part with the wood frame. The hinges have been picked out in brass and the modified door handles fitted.
The fuel tank posed a problem as it had horrendous joints in both counter sunk ends. this was going to be difficult to clean up if filled, so I chose to make some blanking panels from very thin plastic card
Thats it for nowjase attached the following image(s): “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Very nice Jase, I like the look of the wood, Im sure that took a bit of doing. You could have planked with veneer but then it wouldnt have been a plastic kit anymore

I did look at adding vainer but I am trying to keep the build as 'classic' as possible. Jase “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Starting to round the corner on this build now.
The wheels have been cleaned up and test fitted, they are now ready for prime and paint. The sump has been painted and given a varnish and is now completed. Also the rear section of the hood that connects the bonnet to the cabin has also been painted and had the white pinstripe added.
The windscreen frame needed a lot of clean up. I have removed the windscreen section and replaced the supports with some brass rod. Clean up was proving difficult and unsatisfactory and the rod gives a much better scale feel. The two lanterns that at attache to the windscreen frame have also been modified replacing the 'u' shaped mount with brass wire again improving the scale look.
Some more progress later in the week
