FITTING THE DUMMY GUN SUPPORT BEAMS Hi All, you will notice I have done very little planking, I have concentrated on making sure the basic construction of the ship is to my liking. During this process I noticed 3 ribs were off line so I cut them off and realigned them. At this stage I can access parts of the ship easily, particularly when it comes to fitting the stern gun ports, which I want to have open not closed. I have fitted the Dummy gun support beams, while doing this I pinned the beams through to the ribs,to make a stronger fix, plus I ran a good layer of adhesive along the back of the beam where it comes in contact with the deck, here are the photos:- MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Hi Hans, if I am just steaming I do it over a kettle, but usually I prefer to soak wood for 30 mins I hope that helps, Kind regards Mike MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Hopefully one day I will get to build this ship, only I have no idea where I would keep it. Looks like I would have plenty of room for some LED lighting through the ship. Looking good. :)

Mike you may encounter a problem marking out the gunports as the cannon support beams are now fitted on the middle deck. The instructions will say to drill tiny holes from the inside in line with the top of the middle deck through the planking. This would enable you to mark the edge of the deck on the outside of the planking. All of the dimensions we are given for the gunports use the top face of this middle deck as a datum. All i can suggest is that when you do the first planking you make the top edge of a plank flush with this deck. You will then have a line to follow on the outside. Regards Nigel

Regards Nigel Hi Nigel, I am not following all the instructions with my build, I am adding my interpretation of how the ship should look i.e. Offset bowsprit, deeper shaped hull at the stern, rear open gun ports and stern(transom) opening gun ports. I will be cutting my gun ports at 12mm square (not 13) as this will represent a better scale size in my opinion. I will be adding frames for my gun ports and planking up to the exact measurements, with no need to cut out, as they will automaticaly appear as the planking is fitted. I hope this answers your question. I am looking forward to seeing your build, thank you for looking in Kind regards Mike MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

No worries mate just didn't want you to end up in a pickle, but you've obviously got it covered. My gunports are all cut but if i was to do the build again I'd drop the lower ports by 5mm the gap between bottom and middle ports is to small as designed by deag. Regards Nigel
