11a - Jib Finally, back to business!!! I’m done driving a mouse around a PC and just pressing ‘print’. Had some brass rings left over from the Victory, blackened them for the jib. • Cut thread A & B 500mm long and attach to the top of the sail • Cut thread C 400mm long and attach to the bottom of the sail • Cut 2 threads D 200mm long and attach to the other corner • Loosen the brass rings and fit the jib to the stay • ‘A’ runs up, through the block attached to the cross tree and then to belaying point 33 • Feed line B through the rings, through the block on the bowsprit and attach to belaying point 34 • Feed line ‘C’ through the other block on the bowsprit and attach to belaying point 32 • Threads ‘D’ are attached to belaying point 35 Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Hi All, Apologies for the inactivity on my side. Just been dealing with some challenges on the personal front. They have been absorbing all my time & little left for anything else. Hopefully, things will be returning to normal soon. 11b1 Fore Sail – Halyard & Yard Lifts A quick note before I continue with the sails. The instructions have us inserting a pin into the bottom of the block. I have also indicated this in my instructions. But when I came to do the assembly, I rather attached the end of the line to the mast. I know this is a bit of a cheat, but it still looks ok. I attached the foresail yard to the mast as per the instructions. I think I missed an opportunity here to make the parrels with black glass beads. Another cheat – perhaps I’m getting a bit tiered. Anyhow, down to business: • Halyard – cut a 400mm thread and attach to the mast. Feed it through the 5mm block on the yard and then through the 5mm block below the fighting top and belay to point 4. • Yard Lift ‘A’ – cut x2 700mm threads (Port & Starboard), attach one end to the mast, feed the other through the bottom (5mm) block on the end of the Yard, back through the block on the mast and belay to point 16. Repeat on the other side. Make sure that the yard is parallel to the deck, i.e. perpendicular to the mast, before securing the knots. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. Hi All, Continuing with the Foresail. 11b2 Fore Sail – Buntlines Buntline ‘B’ & ‘C’ • Cut x4 900mm pieces of thread. • Attach one to the block midway on the yard. ‘A’ Take it around the front of the sail and up through the block. • Feed it through the block closest to the mast under the fighting top. • Belay to point 36 & 37 (These lines share a belaying pin) • Attach the other ‘C’ near the middle of the three blocks near the shrouds. As with ‘B’, take it around the front of the sail and up through the block. • Feed it through the middle block under the fighting top. • Belay to point 36 & 37 (These lines share a belaying pin) • Repeat on the other side. Once again, make sure that you are happy with the tension of the thread before securing the knots. Quick tip – by tightening this thread a little you are able to give the sails the appearance of bellowing. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

11b3 Fore Sail – Clewlines Clewline ‘D’ • Cut x2 800mm threads. • Attach the thread near to the outer of the three blocks near to the mast. • Feed the thread through one of the blocks on the tip of the sail and back through the outer block where you tied the line. • From there, feed it through the block furthest from the mast under the fighting top. • Belay to point 38. • Repeat on the other side. Once again, make sure that you are happy with the tension of the thread before securing the knots. Quick tip – again, as with the buntlines, by tightening this thread a little you are able to give the sails the appearance of bellowing. Hi All, continuing with the Foretopsail 11c Foretopsail 11c1 Halyard I attached the foresail top yard to the mast as per the instructions. • Halyard – cut a 700mm thread and attach to the yard. Feed it through the block on the yard and then through the hole in the mast and belay to point 8. 11c2 Yard Lift, A • Yard Lift ‘A’ – cut x2 800mm threads (Port & Starboard), attach one end to the mast, feed the other through the bottom (5mm) block on the end of the Yard, back through the block on the mast and belay to point 17. • Repeat on the other side. 11c3 Sheet, B Unfortunately, I did not take a photo of this as I was building it. I have included a sketch from my working drawings to assist, failing that, I do have a pic of the fore topgallant sheet to come. The rigging process is identical bar the belaying point. • Attach x2 600mm threads to the corner of the sail, next to the block that will be used for the clewline. • Feed it through the UPPER (3mm) block on the foresail yard. • Then through the inner of the three blocks attached to the foresail yard. • Belay to point 39. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. 11c4 Fore Top Sail Buntline, C • Cut x2 900mm pieces of thread. I fitted one buntline on the fore top sail. • Attach one to the block midway on the yard. ‘C’ Take it around the front of the sail and up through the outer of the three blocks on the yard. • Belay to point 40 (These lines are tied to the 5th shroud) • Repeat on the other side. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl.
