NMBROOK wrote:The ports are 13mm wide by 12mm high. The italian instructions suggest drilling small holes against the top of the deck from the inside and the same against the bulkheads from the inside.I did this with a 0.5mm drill in a pin vise(you cant get dremel etc inside hull).I drilled a hole every 10-15 mm.Then its a case of joining the holes dot to dot style on the outside with a pencil,i clamped a piece of 4mm square lime for the deck levels as this gives a nice flowing curve.Because of the tumblehome (onion shape)of the hull the second decks ports are in a face with about a 20 deg slope,i kept the size gauge horizontal so the port is actually higher if you measure on the sloping face of the hull.Having cut all mine out now i have decided to reduce the port size on the top deck to 11mm wide by 10mm high,as it just looks top heavy and the gunports should decrease in size a you go up decks.as mine are cut i'm just going to line the top ports with 1mm strip, this part is black so will be covered.I hope you can understand my waffle and thankyou for your encouragement, Regards Nigel You see, ask questions on this forum and the majority of times the answers will flow in..... Fully understand your guidance but would ask, can you get a pin vice in between the dummy gun supports and the planking... not a lot of room in there or am I missing something... Don't see a problem doing that with the bulkheads..... Thanks for the guidance Nigel, really do appreciate it...... Regards Alan

You do not need to drill holes along the bottom deck it is the next deck up you need.Deagostini work from this line and give dimensions so you can mark the line of the lower deck on the outside of the hull.Indeed all vertical dimensions are set out from this second gundeck. Glad i can help Nigel

No work done last night due to other demands on my time... . Started tonight by laying 2 layers of planks on either side of the upper hull. For the third layer I first fitted the plank running from rib 16 to the stern, then cut a length to run from midway between ribs 5 & 6 to 16, tapered the plank ensuring the taper run the full length of the strake... Glued in position and when dry blended the taper to run onto the previous plank... Hopefully tomorrow will fit the third layer to the other side and finish planking up to issue 33.. Happy building all.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Finished the planking as per issue 33 and moved onto to sealing the gap between the gallery and the stern planking... Cut a section of bamboo to fit and using steam from the kettle induced a bend in the plank to fit the curvature of the gallery.... Using a sanding block, removed the rounded edge of the bamboo to ensure a snug fit with the gallery profile.... When happy with the fit glued and pinned in place.... final shaping and sanding to be done tomorrow... Finally trimmed the planking overhanging the stern.. Happy building all....
