Both completed canisters in their correct locations on the conning tower upper deck. They are not glued in place at this stage as i will paint and weather them separately. It also makes it easier to paint the conning tower with less details in the way. Sticky Wickett attached the following image(s): Completed projects: 1/43 scale Bedford HA van / 1/43 scale MG TD sports car Current projects: 1/48 scale U-boat [U230] Future projects: 1/148 scale railway diorama / 1/50 scale R/C Volvo F89 logging truck / 1/148 scale Thunderbirds Fireflash

They were very fiddly to make with the odd bit flying off into the kitchen never to been seen again. Also, lots of trial and error, but I'm very happy with the end result. Regards, Phil W. The U-boat measures 1.4 meters [4 feet] in length, so pretty big. Lots of scope for fine scale detailing in this scale [1/48] and on such a large model, it takes awhile. Regards, Phil W. Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. This weeks update sees the start of detailing and modifying the Flak 37 gun that will be located on the lower deck of the conning tower. The gun is complete as it stands, but being a 3d printed affair, it lacks strength and is very fragile. Some of the finer details were also obscured, so i decided to make the gun more robust and replace any details with scratch built items. The first job was to split the gun into several sections by carefully cutting with a razor saw. The attached photo shows the shield removed from the gun in three pieces. Sticky Wickett attached the following image(s): Completed projects: 1/43 scale Bedford HA van / 1/43 scale MG TD sports car Current projects: 1/48 scale U-boat [U230] Future projects: 1/148 scale railway diorama / 1/50 scale R/C Volvo F89 logging truck / 1/148 scale Thunderbirds Fireflash

The gun was printed in a fixed position, however, i wanted to position it at a different angle. For this I drilled through the supports and through the gun itself to provide a locating hole. The attached photo shows the 1.0mm diameter drill ready. Sticky Wickett attached the following image(s): Completed projects: 1/43 scale Bedford HA van / 1/43 scale MG TD sports car Current projects: 1/48 scale U-boat [U230] Future projects: 1/148 scale railway diorama / 1/50 scale R/C Volvo F89 logging truck / 1/148 scale Thunderbirds Fireflash

When the drilling was complete, i then cut the gun away from its supports with a razor saw. The attached photo shows the gun separated and the aftermarket brass barrel i mentioned in a previous post alongside it.
