Navigator and access ladder fitted. I have always spent quite a bit of time checking and double checking the position of the crew; whether they're busy, relaxing or talking to one another, as i think it's important and adds to the 'feel' of each compartment. In this scenario, i drilled a small hole, near the map table for the Navigators comms lead to be plugged in and then positioned him so that he was in the direct eyeline of the Commandant on the sky periscope. I imagine the Navigator is in direct contact with the Radar Room via his comms and relaying this information to the Commandant. By careful positioning, a story can be created and looks believable. Crew member fitted in position. Again, quite a bit of time was taken to ensure he 'fitted' into the this scene and not just plonked into place. Crew member fitted, again, paying attention to his position as well as the search periscope dome and also a matt black pole fitted near to the Commandant; which is in fact a cardan shaft in real life, for raising and lowering the radio antennae on the Bridge. All my photos are taken with a macro lens, so they all appear bigger than they are in real life, which is good and a bad. Good as i can post fairly good quality pics and bad in that i can then see errors with painting etc, which can help me improve. Please find attached a photo of the Control Room with a 1 pence coin to give you an idea of this scale. The Control Room is 150mm in length [6 inches] and 1/48 scale, which is the standard this model is built too. 1/48 scale equates to 6.35mm on the model to 1 foot on the real thing, so 0.5mm on the model is approx 1 inch on the real thing. That concludes this update. I still have a lot to do, but fingers crossed i can get the Control Room finished off in readiness for my update next week. I'm still aiming to complete the model by the end of this year. Thanks for looking in, have a great bank holiday weekend and happy modelling! Regards, Phil W. Fabulous work as always from you Phil and amazing to see the true scale of this brilliant model. Unbelievable that you are able to get so much detail into such small spaces, and the fact that you've scratchbuilt a lot of that makes it even more unbelievable!
Don't make the mistake of trying to achieve a deadline Phil, you'll only end up cutting corners, just take whatever time it needs and get it right. The finished model will be all the better for it!

Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. Thanks for all your comments and concerns that you feel i might rush this build to finish by year end. There will be no cutting corners to finish, it's just year end is looking likely, mind you, after this week, add another week on to that! So in this update i don't have many photos to share considering the amount of work involved. I concentrated on the bank of valves that i mentioned in last weeks post and very fiddly work it was! Lots of very small valve handwheels coming unstuck, pieces not aligning, you all know the way things go on occasion. The attached photo is a representation of the huge amount of valves and handwheels that would of been fitted to the real thing. Valves temporarily fitted to the hull section. I started to add all the pipework using 0.7mm diameter solder. 14 lengths of pipework to fit and 7 lengths fitted here. Looking from the reverse side and the side that will be viewed. By next week i will have all the pipework fitted, everything painted white, valve handwheels will be painted red, green and silver. All varnished and then pin washed before fitting properly.
