Brilliant Budgie!
I love Bismarck and it looks like you are doing an awesome shop of her.
I can relate to all the problems showing up in the close up shots as I found this myself when using the macro setting when building my Yamatao

Thanks for comments Gents Tidy up time......taking a break from the hull Need to decide soon static or R/C.....as getting close to screwing the decks down as i want the hull to deck join to be invisible and access to be via the superstructure if i go R/C so will need to get the rudders, motors and shafts in place Have been talking to my local hobby shop and they have given me advise on bits n bobs required and will keep me on track thru the r/c conversion Thanks for poppin' in budgie attached the following image(s):

Hi Budgie Looking Very good. Brings back some memoreys of when i done mine. have you decided if you are going down the R/c root yet. One little problem i remember doing the r/c version was the prop shafts go throgh one of the ribs near the stern the holes in the rib where to small for the prop shafts there was a lot of fiddling around to make them bigger. Look forward to seeeing more of your build. Ian Current builds.Hachettes build the bismark,HMS Victory, HMS Hood. Finished Builds Corel HMS Victory cross section.

Good Mornin' Folks Finished gauzing the inside of the hull I have temporarily screwed the deck down (will countersink the screws later) Photocopied the deck templates and stuck them to the deck using Elmers rubber cement (anti wrinkle on paper and should peel off quite easily once done) This will allow me to roughly cut out areas under the fwd/aft superstructure and barbettes for access once the deck is permanately fixed for access to running gear etc Usualy a coaming protrudes up from the deck into the superstructure to hold it in place But as the superstructure is not hollow i think i will have to put a ledge on the underside of the deck and build a base on the superstructures equal to the deck thickness Only issue i have been pondering over is access to the rudder area There is no superstructure to hide the cutout lines This is the area where there is a swastika painted on the deck My painting abilities are naff and i do not know if i could purchase a transfer to help disguise the cutaway part Which brings me to my thoughts......why would a ship in time of war be displaying great big swastikas on the deck.....if it was purely ship to ship battles maybe... but in days of aviation with spotter planes, bombers etc... you would not need to bother getting out your ship recognition hand book Then i had a moment of inspiration .....when at sea did the swastikas get covered with some kind of cover such as tarpaulin.....this would satisfy my curiosity and more importantly cover my cut out lines.... if anyone can point me in the right direction for this i will be most grateful As you can see in photos there is still a bit of work to be done to edges where deck joins the hull....nothing a bit of sanding or adding a thin veneer along the edge which will be addressed once deck permanately secured Thanks for lookin' budgie attached the following image(s):

From memory, before sailing on her only mission, all of her camouflage livery was painted over, save for the bow and stern false waves, and the swastikas were painted over as well. The red area surrounding them was as well. The same colour as the hull I think. I have chosen to have it in the earlier half camo, where only the hull had the camo paint and not the super structure, and the full swastikas on both bow and stern. On the Go RMS Titanic 1/250 (third time)
Completed RMS Titanic 1/250 (twice), DK Bismarck 1/200, RMS Queen Mary 2 1/400, HMS Hood 1/200

Hi Budgie I have to agree with Titanic when she sailed on her last mission just the bow and stern false waves were present the swastikas were also painted out, but in Ballard's book the paint has worn away to show there remnants. There is also dispute on the turret top colours as there was an order passed to paint them yellow so as to aid recognition by aircraft as they neared the coast of France but there is no evidence of this being done by eye witnesses at the final battle. I have this book also which gives some great detail pictures, http://www.militarymodel...battleship-bismark/7036

Thanks for the info Gents much appreciated I would prefer the decking only, and adding the swastikas as like a lot of models was a bit daunting for me but if i decided to go that way and did not like the end result i can just paint over it as like the real ship Seems like a win win situation Thanks chaps Roughly cut out the base for the removable section to sit on I will tidy up along the edges once superstructures secured to it Only this morning i stuck a top on the fwd superstructure using wood glue and superglue where it was to be stuck to the plastic parts I wish i hadn't as it would have been easier to add the detail in that narrow walkway where the fwd and aft superstructure join. There are bulkhead doors, painting and planking to be done in there Might cut it where i have just used wood glue and stick it back on later budgie attached the following image(s):

Evenin' Folks.....not got as much done as i would have liked this week Too much humming and hawing over which paint to use..and getting nowhere fast There are 2 bulkheads that face each other on the fwd and aft superstructure There is no brass covering for those....expect it is coz no one can see much of that area.....but there is 9 brass bulkhead doors to go there which needs to be done now while i have access to the area before they are glued to the removeable base and a couple of plastic bits at the edges which can be glued further into the build As the doors are glued up off the deck i can slide the planking detail in there later Anyhoos I sanded and sealed the bulkheads with diluted cellulose dope and it felt really smooth but when i sprayed them (Halfords grey primer) it looked like a minefield I decided to rub back down and using a bit of filler i was still not happy when sprayed Decided to rub back down yet again and cover the bulkheads in thin styrene which when sprayed i was content with apart from the shade of grey The main colours used are supposed to be RAL7000 Rat with Tail(squirrel) grey for the hull and for the superstructure RAL7001 silver grey These do not seem to equate exactly to other makes of paint? Thought about using a light grey but which one? too much too choose from head hurting Plus what format... brush, spray can or tinlets... which would require a crash course on using a spray gun Nearly made up my mind when looking on line.. but looking at the colour on a pc doesn't neccessarily mean it will be the shade i like in reality An Italian company does the RAL paint i require in spray cans but i thought it was a bit expensive.... until i compared with an alternative make...works out about the same price as when you get to the checkout there is the usual VAT, postage but a charge for hazardous goods as well I have roughly cut out the area on the main deck for the removeable superstructure to sit in...now back to thinking of what paint???? budgie attached the following image(s):
