Nice work Greyhawk, it's not looking half bad BigGrin, if you keep going like this you are going to have an awesome Victory. Cool

How are you feeling about getting to the planking now you've done the launch?

Planking was the thing that worried me the most when I started this project.

After fighting with the launch I'm approaching the ships planking as "meh, no worries, mate". BigGrin

So after months and months I finally receive the first delivery for the cross section. Only it isn't the first delivery but the next to last, to the wrong adress, at the wrong price, containing one issue twice and another one not at all.

Please get your act together, Interabo, you're embarrassing everyone involved in this.

EDIT: Interabo has promised to step up their act. Hope never dies.

Still no cross section delivered. I have however now sourced a complete set of issues for it on another forum for a third of the actual cost.

Issue 13

Oh man. This one nearly broke me.

The ships ribs went well as always.

But the launch.... whatever I touched turned into solid [not a very nice word].

Tried to cut the eyebolt to size? It went flying.

Tried to drill a hole in the rudder? It went splitting. Again. And again.

Had to rebuilt the rudder five times until I finally managed to get it right. Thanks Alan and Steve for your help with this one. Couldn't have done it without you.

Nonetheless the launch is finally finished (apart from mast and anchor rope) and I'm really really glad I won't have to mess with wood this fickle again in this build. At least until I realize how much I don't like how the launch turned out and get another issue 6 & 9 and rebuild it proper. Which will likely happen.

Have to find another eyebolt. Hopefully there'll be spare bolts in further issues

Issue 14

After a small break I continue with building HMS Victory.

We get the penultimate ribs and start with the stern gallery.

The launch is now fitted with all it's equipment and ready to be launched. Into the sun. Or the "keep this for later" box.

It's funny how much easier it was to build another gun this time around. Seems one DOES learn a little bit along the way.

Issue 15 will see us add the final ribs, which will be a great place to finally start the gimmick of this diary.

With issue 15 we receive the last rib and some parts for the base of the stern gallery (these last ones are used at a later date)

We also have to make a bunch of decisions. I will not be going for the version with cutout, mostly because I have the Black Pearl arriving tomorrow which will feature a great big cutout section.

Thanks to forum member michu, I have received the copper tiles, so I'm going to go for a copper clad hull.

I will also be going for a fully rigged ship, because why not. I'm trying to learn something here after all.

Thanks to a member of another forum, I have now also finally received the complete kit for the cross section (a feat the official german distributor was unable to succeed in for months. Four months.).

So without further ado, let's start up building the cross section.

The build diary for the cross section has been moved to http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=17081

It might be an idea to start a separate topic for the cross-section build, it could get confusing mixed into the same topic as the ship build.

It's what I was going for with the "and a half" part. But I see what you mean. I'll have a think about splitting it up.

Issue 16 - Getting up to warp speed

Now THIS took a lot longer than expected. It should have been:

- Pop in the two halfs of the forward gun deck
- Cut some slots into the gun deck support
- Party all night long

Instead it was:

- Realizing the laser did not cut off one half of the gun deck where it should have instead cutting away at.... you know what i'll draw a picture

- Realizing the other half had warp significant enough it stood up by itself in the middle of the deck by several millimeters

So that was a lot of fun to correct and by fun I mean watching wood dry mostly.

It's all good now, at least good enough that it should hold its shape once glued and nailed in. But yeah, that took a while.

Nothing's set yet though, I'm going to test fit the other half before I commit to anything fully.

Also going to need to find time and go buy some nails, because the packaging fairy forgot to put the package of nails in issue 17s sleeve. Yay. Anyone know how long these should be?
