Hello there Keith.
The springs were a real pain. Each leaf was very 'springy' and extremely stiff. Not only that, but for some odd reason they varied in the springy-ness department so that it was an added difficulty getting the curve the same all the time.
I literally rolled each leaf around a piece of 40mm tube. The curve was WAY more than required, but the parts sprung back to almost straight. After half a dozen goes at that with little effect, I resorted to using pliers, and bending each leaf at 10mm intervals whilst trying not to get a crease. The shorter the leaf, the tougher it became.
The end result wasn't perfect, but they all fitted together fairly well. I contemplated wrapping the springs in cord but I like the look of the leaves in the blackened steel they came as.

I wonder if it would be possible to anneal them... basically you heat up over the flame, then leave to cool down slowly. They should become much easier to shape. Then you should be able to bring back the springiness at least to some point by heating up again and cooling them down immediately by submerging into cold water. Happy building :-) http://www.model-space.com/gb/

Hello chaps. Apologies for the slow updates but it is, after all, Summer - even if it isn't great. Most evenings will find me sitting in the garden with a glass of plonk so little model-bashing is going on. Daytime, I'm playing with my 1:1 toy car... However, the front springs, uprights and assorted gubbins are now assembled and fitted. Nothing overly complex here so not really much to say other than it's a fun build. I'm considering putting the whole thing to bed for a few months as for me, Autumn/Winter/Spring is model time. Roy. roymattblack attached the following image(s):
