Hi All,

This update sees the concluding part of my 1/43 scale MG TD build.

Similar to the Bedford HA van I built earlier in the year where I added a newspaper to name one of many little details, i decided to add a personal touch to this model. I had already produced the actual number plates printed on paper, but the thing that was screaming out to be modelled was a..........green, Welsh teddy!BigGrin LOL Ace!

See attached photos of the actual 'ted' in his prime spot on the dashboard.

I started by rolling out a small ball of white clay to form the body. This proved problematic as it cracked and crumbled the following evening. I then hit upon the idea of using polyfilla to form the body and head. It worked a treat, albeit fiddly, especially when it came to gluing them together.

Very tiny bits of polyfilla were added to form the ears and snout. A liberal coating of gorilla glue hardened and stuck it all together.

I carefully shaped the ears and snout with an oval needle file.Blink

I painted it matt green and dotted in the eyes and mouth with a fine tip marker.

See attached photo of 'ted'.BigGrin

This photo shows the front grill painted. I also added at this point an MG emblem printed on paper, fixed to the top of the grill and the headlight bar and lights.

Later on I also fixed small circles of clear plastic glued to the headlights to represent the lenses.

The next stage was all about assembly; adding the tonneau cover, joining the body to chassis, touching up paint here and there, scratch building two, small, windscreen wipers, gluing 'ted' in place and mounting the car onto the oak plinth.

The attached photo shows the completed model. I will be posting further pics tomorrow in the finished build section, showing more detail and angles.

I also wrote a few details, for posterity, on the bottom of the plinth.

Well that concludes my 1/43 scale MG TD build. Brian was presented with it on Saturday and by all accounts he was chuffed to bits! Ace!BigGrin.

As I mentioned before, I will post lots more photos in the Finished Builds section of the forum tomorrow.

Thanks for looking and your comments. That's why this forum is a great platform for all of us modellers.BigGrin

Regards,
Phil W.

Thanks Tony!Cool I'm really happy with 'ted'. A very fiddly process while making with many 'large intakes of breath' were I thought I'd accidentally crushed bits only to breath a sigh of relief that I'd 'got away with it'. Overall, a nice, personal touch to the model.
